Mostly because I know I would die if my brand new tv fell off the wall and broke because my dumb ass wanted to put it up myself... At least if pros do it and it falls u can make them replace it.

No, everyone on EF has at least 52"...unless you mean for the home gym?SC4EVA said:I guess I have to jump to 2008 and get one. Has anyone installed one themselves at home? Was thinking about one of those SONY Bravia XBR ones - Room is about 12 ft wide - Is 46" big enough?
txbondsman said:I'm going to by a 52" LCD with my stimulus money, to stimulate my house. The room is 20 X 16. I haven't checked the links those guys just put up, but at BestBuy it was a Samsung, 1080dpi, yada yada, for 2K, I thought that that was good. The LG and Mitsubishi were basically the same TV but they were 400 and 600 bucks more. the only difference was something about the contrast.

You can use a ceiling mount or a wall mount for flat panels. Get a mounting bracket depending on the size of your flat panel.
pin said:My mounting bracket is pimp. It swivels from right to left, so I can watch from the dining room or living room.

i hung a 32 lcd and a 50 plasma. plasma weight is 130lbs had no trouble just have some help there when you attempt this. get bracket at walmart for 100.00 bucks comes with level, stud finder and good instructions. truth is ..its pretty simple. be strategic when choosing a spot to hang it because hiding the wires can be tough. ive done this twice so if you have questions i could help!p0ink said:check www.fatwallet.com and www.slickdeals.net before you go out and buy a tv. they always have AWESOME deals.
Chocolate_Thunder said:If you can swing the extra $ you would be better served with a plasma. I have both a plasma and an lcd and the difference is night and day for the HD channels.
i actually sell electronics for a living and its all preference on lcd or plasma but the plasma does have glass screen. so you will get glare from screen if you have lots of windows in that room. lcd no glare at all. but i own one of each and have no favorite.txbondsman said:what I am concerned with is the glass screen, I have 10 year old and he plays baseball/ hockey and other sports with his Dad in the Living room, despite all the yelling from his mother. (we cracked the plastic screen on the big 52" Pioneer projection, but hey, he made an excellent shot over my shoulder, lol).
Also, in reading about the two, one report said that plasmas reflect light really badly, we have french doors in that room and a wall of windows too, I was swayed by that report. Is any of that a concern or what's yalls take on it.

HAYEZ said:its nto a big deal ...dry wall you just put the anchors in the wall and screws that expand when they go through the drywall...unless you pull on that tv it aint moving...or if you mount it to rotted drywall...lolol...makes sure you mount by a wall outlet so you can run the wires behind the wall and out the bottom to plug it in and for cable acc...
i have a 50 inch plasma i had on the wall on drywall...mine i think weighed 125-150 pounds...the attachment i think had 8 bolts that attached to the wall...some may hit a beam others will notChocolate_Thunder said:Sorry bro but there is NO WAY drywall (most interior wall board is 1/2" thick) is going to hold a 200+ lbs. TV.

they say you should sit no closer than 12 feet from a 50 inch tv. si if your closer than 12 feet than go smaller.p0ink said:do your shopping first, homey
SC4EVA said:Just went and checked both out - The 52" will be way to big for the room - Going to pick up the Sony XB4 "46 for $2200

gonelifting said:It's a 50 inch and $1100. (Panasonic plasma, I mentioned it above) lol @ $2600 and other prices. Seriously folks, look at the $1100 TV first, if your eye does not like it, THEN pay $2600 for a 50 or 52 inch.
gonelifting said:PS If you want "the best of the best", then get the Pioneer KURO. Nuff said.
i been telling people the saem thing..nobody listens...i have a 50 inch plasms and a 37 inch lcd piad less then 1600 for both...both have amazing pictures 1080i...people are fools that spend 2500-3000 on a tv anymoregonelifting said:I don't have the chart in front of me, but my guess is this is way WRONG. The guy getting a 46 instead of a 52, would be better off with the 52. No one gets a Tv and says "it's too big". not with HDTV. Like I said earlier, I just installed one for my sister and they are less than 12 feet away and it's perfect size.

and listen to Poink too. wtf? These prices are high. shop around! online...
Also, make sure the HTiB (surround sound system) you get for the TV is compatible in regards to inputs that the TV or other components you have will connect to it. If you need an hdmi or two, or digital audio etc... make sure your HTiB has those inputs or outputs or whatever your plans are. good luck.
PS If you want "the best of the best", then get the Pioneer KURO. Nuff said.
