Anyone Else Against Bombs?

I'm not trying to start a mutiny here but I have some concerns about this bombing technology George is endowing Platinum members with.

Isn't Karma enough? Bombing seems to create an environment of vague unease, vengeance and, worst of all, an in-group vs. out-group based board.

Karma is pretty indicitave of a members reputation but bombing seems more of a branding and there's a reason we, as a society, chose to abandon the scarlet letter.

I know this may be controversial but these are just my thoughts.

I think bombs are abused in some forums. Namely, the chat and conversation forum. People bomb each other for the stupidest reasons. Nonetheless, I think they are rather useful in this forum. They allow us to quickly get rid of steroid spammers and idiots who make posts not even remotely connected to the purpose of this forum. :rolleyes:

Sometimes people get mad at each other and bomb each other. Who cares? I mean, sure, they both lose some karma, but other than that, nothing serious happens.

Bombs were put in place to entice the many children which visit this board on a regular basis. This is just another gimmick to get people to join. After visiting for more than a year this does not surprise me at all. Don't worry, B.S. like this does not last long. We put up with it because there are still some people who really know what they are talking about once in a while.

I just give Division some red for some cruel words to JDevlin and he bombed me back knowing that I don't have enough K to buy myself out. Does this dictate that from now on I just don't pass comment on what I perceive as an unhelpful post because the instigating member has Karma overload?
Surely not a fair system preventing me from posting when I thought I was helping someone...

While I respect George for running EF, and making his money like any business man should. I think the bombing thing is retarded.... People new to the game are going to ask the "newbie" questions, and that should be understandable. I mean normal members on here can not run and search, so they will more than likely ask questions in the open.

Hell we were all newbies at one point in time.
 
funny thing that i saw this thread...i was thinking the same thing yesturday. there are a few guys here that have given sound advise in the past and continue to do so and lately i'm seeing more bombs for no reason. everytime i see a bomb under somebody's name i click on it to see what post they got bombed for and i have to say that 50% of the time it was for bullshit. probably just somebody thats taken too much halo for the week that felt like bombing. personal issues...in my opinion to not count for a valid bombing.

i think the bombing rights whould be given to mods only. if somebody thinks that there should be a bomb dropped...then contact a mod and have him investigate and do it wisely.

funny thing is that i wanted to post this same topic but i was scared i was gonna get the sh@iut bombed outta me. lol! see what i mean...people will be over cautious on what they wanna post to better this board, which BTW is near perfect compared to other boards.
 
i might add that i've never been bombed, i'm just talking from what i've seen. hell...i was pltinum for a week and still didn't bomb anybody even though i did see some dumbass posts. the way i look at it is that we arent all gonna agree on everything. everybody is entitled to their own dumbass opinions. including me.

Ed, consider the source of your bomb. I for one, wouldn't listen to 1 word or care one bit about a bomb from your bomber. Besides, at the end of the day it doesn't matter whether the meter by your name is lower or higher IMO.

If you were plat it would only show up as RED Karma instead of a bomb.....

This is why I gave you red, nothing personal either. However the point being made here is that under the current format I may as well say nothing as I have neither recourse or protection from being bombed for objecting to, what I see, as an unnecessary insensitive response to a member in need.

I see your point and I agree with you, however, Spellwin has included the bomb feature because he thinks it will make the Plat feature more attractive to potential customers.

That's not to say you shouldn't continue to red posts you don't agree with, just that you should be aware of the consequences.

4 bombs = banned.

I agree... bombs are a waste of board space... but then again we have to all realize.... its only the internet!!!! People get so enthralled with karma here and karma there... and all of the sudden we're able to buy more karma for money!!! I'd rather spend my $40 on meat and chicken then on karma... But just like everything in life, give power to the wrong people and there will be abuse... so like everyone said... just go with the flow.

That's just the point Div, I now see that the consequences of objection out way the risks. I must therefore say nothing against a plat if I regard his input as improper and this makes my imput, for what it's worth, to this forum censored to a degree. If it is G.S.'s way to make me become a plat then why do I only get 150 k to become a plat when I need at least 3,000 k to defuse my bomb which I believe was inappropriately issued. I just feel that the bomb system needs to be better thought out as it's open to abuse. Trial without judge or jury seems to spring to mind.... :p

Four bombs will not result in a members banning. It takes four bombs within a 24 hour period to black out a member's posts for 48 hours after the last bomb.

Just like everything else in this world, man-made construct are capable of being used appropriately and meaningfully embedding in principles of integrity and wholesomeness but as long as opportunity exists, there will also be room for exploitation and abuses for whatever reasons it may be. I see Karma & Bombs just as childish and yet matured like grown ups.

I honestly appreciate meaningful K where it recognizes the value of your post. However, the real value of K truly lies in another member's appreciation of your existence on this board amidst some thousands of other anonymous identities.
Otherwise, a K is merely a K -one may have a thousand of acres of greens and yet it represents not a great deal more than the quantity of accumulated meaningless validations.

Those were some of the best times on EF.

I just unloaded some carpet bombing on this thread for old time's sake.

I liked the Johnny Bomb Squad, some good bomb messages came out of that.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but internet bombs won't hurt me. :D It's sort of like mailbox bashing or throwing rolls of toilet paper in someones front yard, I think it mostly appeals to youngsters. I try to be respectful when I'm on the net, differences should be settled in person, not by arguing like a bunch of girls from the safety of your computer.
