Anyone after pure power out there??

Hi ya all!

I just found this site today, and got quite excited about it. Here, where I live, I simply can't find other girls who lift weights in a serious manner, so it can get quite lonely every now and then:bawling:

Anyway, as I browsed the discussion on this board, I began to wonder whether I'm "one of a kind" with my working out. Many of you women seem to be into body-building - which is totally ok - but are there any girls like myself who just want to lift as much iron as possible? I'm into powerlifting, but I'm not competing yet (planning to compete in a couple of years, though).

I would love to be able to change experiences and talk about developments with other women - it seems that guys don't always take me seriously... So, anyone with the same problem??

Hi Johanna.......I will bump this up for you; not sure how many power builders there are on this board????? And welcome to the elite board girl :) Tell us more about you, stats and such.......

HEY!!!!
Nice to meet an other powerlifter girl!!
I'll do my first powerlifting comp pretty soon. I'm sure that I will kick some ass! (I heard that self motivation is good, so..)
I started my preparation 2 weeks ago and it's going well. I'm kind of nervous though... I've been working out constantly for 7 years but I started lifting very heavy only last spring. I didn't know I was strong!!
We should exchange some lifting tips...

Thanks for answering, you two!!

Some facts about me:

I'm a 24-yr. old woman, and I've been lifting for almost 7 years, but unfortunately not constantly - I have a history of a bad back:( , which took a year and a half to get over (a poor student can't afford specialist doctors, I'm afraid). Now I've been healthy for a year and a half and more motivated than ever!!

My best results SO FAR are (I hope 1kg IS 2.2lbs):
Bench press: 154lbs (165 in four-five weeks since my schedule seems to keep)
Squat: 242lbs
Deadlift: 269,5lbs (haven't really been workin' on that yet)

I've had a personal "judge" seeing through those lifts so they fulfill the requirements, but I haven't used any extra equipment like knee-wraps or bench-shirts (or whatever it is in english??) when I've done my results, only a belt. Plus that I haven't used, don't use and will not use any drugs to improve my physique. I have a lot of patience and I know I have every possibilities to get to the top national (or Scandinavian) level if I stay healthy and work hard. It'll just take a few more years...

The only thing that worries me is that if I decide to really dedicate myself to powerlifting and competing, I probably must change my training habits... So far my focus has been in overall strength and lifting as heavy as possible with all my bodyparts, which of course doesn't always support the three major exercises...

Finally, I'm sorry for any silly words or idioms I might have used, it's been a while since I wrote in English the last time :nerd:

I agree with Lobo, most people speaking English as a second language speak it better than the average American using it as their only language.

I started out training with a powerlifting style at the beginning of this year, but I kind of 'came over to the other side' (bodybuilding) this summer when I started to like the muscle I was gaining and wanted to bring up certain areas that weren't developing from doing just the core lifts. I still focus on power movements and only do a few isolation exercises that I really need, but I don't think I'll ever compete as a PL and probably not as a BB either. I'm not too competitive by nature and guess I'm not so concerned with surpassing others as I am with surpassing myself. I physically and mentally NEED my time with the weights though and acheiving in that area is really important to me.

Although the approach is a little different between the two pursuits, you'll find most of the people around the site are very concerned with improving their lifts and moving more, and more, and more weight. We're a greedy lot. :) So hopefully you will make yourself comfy, open up and share, because we're all here for the exchange of ideas.

And your English was nearly perfect :)

Hi it's me again. I must admit that I'm totally hooked on this site now. I've spent nearly the whole weekend browsing it through, with this little voice in my head saying "yeah, yeah, true, SO true, exactly!"

It's SO relieving to find out that I'm not alone with my attitude - I just wish that there was someone like you girls at my gym, it sure would lift my spirits every now and then:) Then again, now that I only compare myself with the guys, it certainly drives me to such rage, seeing how they always stay a step ahead of me... It probably makes me try ten times harder than if I compared myself with the ladies (yeah, I wouldn't be pushing forward anymore in that case).

Right, back to my essay now:nerd:

Yeah, and I just want to say that I already consider you all very wonderful persons!!
