Anybody here ACE certified?

mt

New member
I'm thinking of getting certified and looking at various programs and certs. Does anybody know what this ACE cert says under the person's name?

Yes, I have worked at ACE Hardware for many years and am a certified salesperson. "Ace is the Place"

I got my ACE certification about 15 years ago, and have probably forgotten 90% of the info on the exam.

I was in my late teens when I took the exam, but that was the hardest Goddamn test I ever took... At the time at least, ACE and NASM were the most difficult certifications to require as compared to all the McCertifications available from the other online programs... I have no idea if ACE is still as respected as it was back in the day, but it used to carry some clout.

Did you end up working as a personal trainer and if so how did you like it? Do you do any personal training now?

Huh? What? You're concerned with the title? Wha...?

I already know what the title is. But they did print some words as well. I figure that they must have had a good reason to print those words. Just curious as to what those works actually say. I guess that seems strange to you?

ACE is now the easiest certification to get in the world of personal training. Others are your ACSM and NASM certifications. I believe the NASM is the toughest to achieve. A good route to go is get those while going to school, snag your bachelors and then become a CSCS. (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist)

Good advice. If this is a field you want to do as a career. I'd go the college classes route along with NASM certificate.

ACE is still accepted by some gyms though. But would put it at the bottom of them all.

I already went to college with an engineering major. Don't really want to go back. Just looking at something I think I'd enjoy when I retire in a few years. BTW, I check out of some the sample tests for ACE. Here was one of the question:

Which CANNOT be used by the body as an energy source during a high intensity weight training session?
a) Protein
b) Carbohydrates
c) Fats/Lipds
d) Vitamins.

Of course I answered vitamins as vitamins provide no energy, no calories. But I was marked off wrong and they gave the correct answer as Protein. WTF? There a couple of more that were either inaccurate or simply wrong. I think they charge $200 to take the test.

I actually remember that question. Yeah it's not wrong actually....got me the first time too. Yes there are a lot of questions out there like it on the test. I believe you had to score a 75% or higher to pass. So you're in Redondo huh? I'm only 40min away in Surf City dude.

Back when I got my ACE certification in '98 I believe it was one of the most reputable and difficult to obtain.

I haven't done any personal training since probably '98 or '99 so I have no idea how the industry views it now.

NFPT

certification.. accepted internationally and the continuation credits are free of cost and can be done on line..

you can get the cert via a workshop or at home study..

It really depends on what you want to do with the certification.. if you just want to be a trainer, this is a good starting point but once you start down the path the real answer is you just keep adding them as you go..

if collegiate or professional teams is what you want an degree preferably a masters is the way to go, but if that's what you want get a nutritionist degree, it's more useful and you get paid more money..
