huh?

i killed my last one.. lol.. i think i drowned it.. :( and i think instead of just buying one/some that is/are already grown and shaped etc.. i want to grow mine from a seed.. so that i can be the one to shape it and form it..

i'm just not sure which ones i want to grow... or where i should get the seeds/soil from..

any input?

I think they are coll, but I don't have the artistic talent or patience to grow one and shape it by myself.

does it take a long time. that sounds like a cool thing to do :) then maybe i can plant it on a cliff or something :D

I love climbing them the view is breathtaking after you finally make it to the top!!!!! RADAR

dude.. i'm checking out some of these sites on them.. and there's an 80 yr old fukien that they're selling for $1000..

wtf.. $1000 for a 27" tree... holy schnikeys

They are not cheap, especially the older trees. I want to get one when I am through remodeling my house. I have the spot already picked out in my den.:)

yet another reason why i want to grow my own from scratch.. what if pay $200 for a tree.. only to end up offing it because i go on vacation and forget to water it.. or drown it too...

plus.. i'm sure this is going to sound corny to y'all.. but another reason i want to grow my own is cuz i'd like to develop some type of history with the tree.. so that it maintains some type of significance to me..

Decem,

I got a a Bonsai Tree kit for Christmas from a friend, and it's pretty cool. The kit is made by a company out of the UK called "The Master Herbalist". I couldn't find a website for the actual company, but here are a couple links for resellers of the kits.

Bonsai Direct
Dallas Bonsai

Or you can just go to Yahoo and Search on The Master Herbalist & Bonsai like I did.

I have to say it definately takes time. I've been waiting 3 months just for the seeds of my tree (a Japanese Maple) to germinate. You don't start forming the branches for 2 years at the earliest.

Hope that helps you out a little.

DAYAM.... lol.. for real? 2 years before branches? sheeesh.. i didn't know it'd take that long.. that's one of the one's i want to grow too.. is the maple.. along with the fukien tea..

Yeah, it's a pretty long process. Depending on the type of tree you get the germinating process may be shorter. The Maple has the longest germinating time. When I get home I'll check the instructions to see how long it takes for the Fukien Tea, and let you know.

I think it will be cool once my seeds germinate. Right now, it's just a little plastic cup full of dirt sitting in my fridge...not really much to look at.

The directions, which had to read several times, give you information for 5 years out. Though like I said most of the work is in the first two years.

Later,

Pebcak
