anybody else have a problem with one shoulder and arm bigger then the other???...I had a small left shoulder injury about a year ago and I am right handed. My right arm and shoulder is so much bigger then my left. I have been concentrating on form for the past several months and it doesn't seem to really be helping.

Has anybody else had this problem and what do you do?? Thanks

I do but not in the way that you do. My body by genetics is not very symmetrical. My left shoulder, left arm, and left thigh are slightly larger than the right side. It is still the case even after tearing my left rotator cuff seven years ago. I am right handed btw.

I have a similar problem-my right shoulder and subsequently my right pec are smaller than the left and I'm certain it's due to a shoulder injury--I have been battling impingement syndrome in the right shoulder for 2 years. I am right handed btw. I don't think I'll ever get back my symmetry oh well...

i have symmetry issues too.

left shoulder, pec, and tri are bigger
right bi and quad are bigger

it is most noticeable in my delts though. the problem started in high school - threw shotput a year (lefthanded) and that same year hurt my right shoulder. haven't been able to correct it since.

i tried to do extra reps for my right delt, or focus real hard on form with that side, or tried to conciously carry plates with my right arm. in truth i think i did more harm that good. i was constantly reaggrivatin the injury (even without the extra reps at times), which probably kept that side from growing. i think my best bet may have been to lift each side the same, focusing on isolation movements. what makes things hardest is that my bigger muscle isn't necessarily stronger. my smaller right shoulder is stronger, and my smaller left bi is stronger. i guess it's compensation - neural recruitment for strenght to make up for the difference in muscle size. either way it just complicates things.

unfortunately i don't have any advice for you. instead i have a similar problem and need the same sort of advice you do.

I had this problem when I started weight training, Im actually right handed and the whole of my right side (leg, arm, shoulder) was weaker than the left. When I did squats I would squint to one side to put the weight on the stronger leg. When I did arms or shoulders the right would give out 1 or 2 reps before the left. I never did anything special to sort out the squats it just sorted itself out over a year. As for the shoulder and arm I just trained it the same as the left side. Ie as soon as the right was spent even though I could sqeze another rep or 2 out of the left side I just stopped. Eventually the right side caught up and I now have no sides issues. it worked for me

unilateral training--- train one side at a time, always start out with the weak side and do not exceed that # of reps on the strong side, as you are trying to maintain muscle on the strong side and build the weak side up

heres some good shoulder exercises for this

Standing dumbbell press
Upright dumbbell row
Lateral raise
Front raise
Reverse pec-dec flye

it is just weird...I think my body is out of align because of a shoulder injury and doing dead lifts wrong a couple of years ago....All I know is I have concentrated the past several months to have as perfect form as possible and complete perfect reps but my right shoulder and arm is so much bigger then my left....oh well, will have to deal with it I guess and I am just happy I'm not the only one with this issue....

thanks, maybe I'll see a doctor about this in the near future and see what he says...
