Any small business owners here?

There's no stress if you're business is doign something you LOVE.

And money is fine - as long as you cover yoruself financially for a few years while building up your business.

I ran my own photography business in college and started making mad cash. It was easy because I was a very visual person, uber awesome at my work, loved interacting with people (eg: hot chicks!), and financial overhead was next to nothing. Translation: profits. Too easy.

Small business owner here
2nd generation
30 yrs in the flooring business
My father still is hands on, he'sin his mid -fifties
we are in that transition mode, where I'm slowly taking the reigns over
It's very stressful, I work 5-6 days a weeks and it's on my mind alot.
With the lagging real estate MKT it slowed things up a bit
but when it's busy, it good times! Cha Ching!
I def don't sit on my ass thinking I'll get by in life because I'm the bosses son, I want to dominate and take your life.
I'm all about hustlin
I just shelled out some serious coin to be on top of google/yahoo/msn etc etc
in the yellow banner ads and down the right side of your search criteria
2 business days into and I've generated five phone (potential)customers
what it does is puts in 20-30K worth of key words to do with you business
say you are a painter
and someone within the 20 mile radius googles " cheap paint" or whatever
your website will be right at the top or on the top 3-5

gotta spend money to make money
I'm hoping to retire @ 55

And that's the best way. If you make money - you more enjoy it and value it, since you earned it.

The most f'd up people in life - are stupid kids you see on TV who've been handed down money from birth, so life has always been a big fat party from day one.

They reached the destination without experiencing the journey - so they place no value on it.

i'm just curious how many small business owners are here.

what made you guys decide to start a business, and how much $$$ did you start with?

my buddy started a painting business a few years ago (all of our housemates worked for him during the summer...good times), and it really took off.

well, over the past year, he branched out into construction and is now doing the entire remodel of a local country club and buying a house (with some other investors) in Cherry Hill (very expensive area of colorado) to refurnish and flip.

small business scares me...it seems too easy to lose your shirt.
