Fennel tea can be good too. There's a lot of herbs that can help postpartum. Literally search on herbs postpartum. You don't want to try a bunch at once, you take one thing as directed for at least two or three days before trying another.

A good B complex can help with water retension.

I piled on water after I gave birth, too, never did figure out why. I was holding over 20 lbs. of water, and it sucked. It cleared out in about 2 weeks.

I know why you piled on the water (just had a brain wave).

The hormone released from the anterior pituitary during labour is oxytocin .

It has a postive feedback loop, so the more contractions (which it induces) the more hormone is released, more contractions, more oxytocin.

It is one of the few hormones in the body that has a postive feedback loop, most control systems in the body are negative feedback loops (loads of the hormone/substrate present, the mechanism/enzyme for making more turns off).

ADH or antidiuretic hormone/vasopressin is also released from the anterior pituitary, and it is structurally VERY SIMILAR to vasopressin.

SO, it does exactly as it says, it is an anti-diuretic. When all the oxytocin is being cleared from your body (and as it is a peptide hormone, through the kidneys), it will have that anti-diuretic effect on your kidneys.

As soon as all the hormone clears, the water in your body will balance out as well.

GOD, some of the things I remember.........................
