what you join depends on what you are looking for. for tech skills and an easy life, USAF is good. if you want to make a career out of it, go ARMY. i have some buddies in the USMC and they do nothing but complain how bad the corps is. if you want combat go ARMY, from Panama to Desert Storm to Bosnia to Kosovo and now to Afghanistan, they've seen the most action.

Thanks for all the replies guys, Im still thinking hard about it.

Ok let me say that the programming seems to work over there in the USMC. Its a great branch of service, however I cant justify waiting 18years to be an E6. The ARMY will get you that rank in 4years. Also I beg to differ on the longest basic training. Army Infantry training is the longest unless you go the technology route. Im an 18Bravo (Special Forces or Green Beret to dumb asses) and that alone was 18months Of School before language school. Semper Fi is great, but an E3 with 10years in, just seems kinda counter-productive to me. (Like a good Muscletech cycle) lmao!

OK ZEUS, let's compare apples to apples here. Yeah, Army SF does entail longer training. But that's a specialty. I was saying that Marine Boot Camp is longer than Army Basic Training (which it IS), and that every Marine must then go on to additional training in the USMC School of Infantry. Other branches do not provide additional infantry training unless infantry is your MOS. EVERY Marine is a fully trained combatant, even if their final job assignment is a supply clerk. You can't say that about the Army. I was comparing the minimum training received, not advanced SF training. For that, compare 18 Bravo with Marine Force Recon, which is comparable.

Secondly, the standards are higher. USMC fitness test includes a mandatory 3 mile run. Army is what, 1.5-2? Marines qualify with the rifle at 200, 300 and 500 yards. Army boot quals at 50, 100, 200.

As for slow advancement, that depends on the individual and MOS selected. I made E5 in 4 years. Anyone taking 18 years to reach E6 is a shitbird.

Nothing against the army, like I said, I'm biased. Besides, somebody needs to be the occupying force after the Marines take over! (JK)

Make your decision wisely. If you are not really gung ho, the Army and Marines can be complete misery. If you want training that will lead to a better career in the civilian world, I'd think about the Air Force.

Each branch has cerain jobs that promote faster and slower than others. Thiers noway that you can be an E5 over 13 cause they'll kick your ass out. Not going to tell my job but I've got less than 6 in and will be E6 Ssgt before my 7 year mark.

Mike, you can't just join the seal. You first have to become a salior then try out for the seal team. If you don't make the team then pick up a mop and swab the deck.

I Love when An Intelligent Bro disagree's wit me. lol
Much respect to you Saltlick.............

I think both of us would tell him to join the Air Force though. We have both had such hard lives in our respective branch that the laid back life of the Air Force would be our Hindsight choice. I Love what I do and Im sure Saltlick loves what he does, but the fact is, I cant Kill for a living (Legally) in the regular world. So unless you wanna be a Merc, consider other branches. LOL
Can I get a Amen?

Hey saltlick in my opinion 18 b is a little more specific than force recon because of the fact that alot of the marines join the army or special forces . and your info on the rifle qual is wrong the army goes out to 300 and depending on your mos futher. and as far as advancement i made E5 in 2 and 1/2 years in the infantry of the army. And in my opinion the army infantry training is if not harder then just as hard and as long.
