Anti-biotics and tendon problems?

Alex Cross

New member
Someone just mentioned something about Anti-biotics being rough on your tendons. I know long term they can. I recently took a few weeks of Levaquin, a strong anti-bio. But in the last few years before I got my tonsils out I took numerous doses of more mild ones, like Zithromax and whatnot. I also have had chronic tendonitis in the past few years, any correlation????

I seriously doubt it. Levaquin on the other hand is known to cause achilles (sp?) tendon and hand and even shoulder tendon ruptures. No one knows exactly why this happens but there are some theories floating around. I took Levaquin about a year ago and I had an ADR to it. It definitely seemed to have a detrimental effect on my achilles tendons but they seemed to get a lot better over time. You might want to look into Prolotherapy if you're having chronic tendon problems. Prolo's good stuff man. Good luck.

Sorry. What I was saying is that I have been reading that ALOT of people have really bad tendon problems after taking Levaquin and Cipro and others in that same family. Come to think of it, my tendonitis acted up badly when I was taking it, which I didnt think had anything to do with it at the time. Thing that sucks is I have a nagging prostate infection, and I need to get back on those strong meds. Shit, this sucks!!

Look into AHCC (Active Hexose Correlate Compound) at www.pureprescriptions.com and also www.ahcc-nutrients.com. That stuff is a very potent immune stimulating supplement and can get your body to fight the infection on its own. I'm telling you this stuff puts your infection fighting capability in hyperdrive. The downside is you need to take a few grams of it per day and it's expensive. Anyway, look into it. Good luck.

Hey 40-

Im confused man, I was just lookin around and found a whole long thread where you stated almost word for word what i am saying here. You wrote:

"...I also began to experience pain in my achilles tendons, tendons in my elbows ( the same tendons I just had 3 months of Prolotherapy work done on ) and also my knees and shoulders..."

I have had bad elbow probs and had A.R.T. therapy, which is just like Proptherapy I believe. I am just pissed cause I know I need to go back on the meds to get rid of this prostititus. i think the levaquin kills my elbow, and I think Im gonna have to get on another month. I think I will just quit working out all together while im on the meds... :bawling:

ART is definitely not the same thing as Prolo but that's another story. Don't get depressed man, I really think you can beat that thing with AHCC. Just look into it and let me know if you have any other questions. One other thing, avoid caffeine like the plague while in Levaquin or any other Quinalone family drugs as they can become neurotoxic. Anyway, check out the AHCC by Quality of Life Labs, I think that's the best there is. If you can afford it buy 5 bottles of that stuff and take a gram every 4 hours until they're all done. Man I just got over walking pneumonia with that stuff and no med's, it works.

$75/bottle at www.pureprescriptions.com and if you buy more than 1 bottle the price starts to drop. 5 bottles is $70/bottle and free shipping. I realize it's expensive but for serious infection and immune support it's worth it IMO. Take care bro, let me know how you make out.

Cipro and its entire family class of drugs has contributed to tendon ruptures in over two thousand otherwise healthy men (of course they had an infection) . It weakens tendons for a peroid ranging from a few weeks to a few months, depending on dose and duration of treatment. I suffered a ruptured bicep tendon on cipro.:(
