I sense a non-Sequitur logical fallacy in your reasoning.
These are the typical arguments you get when people support violence against children.
1. Religious, spare the rod and spoil the child. Focus on the Family advocates that leaving welts are acceptable based on the Bible.
2. I was beaten and I turned out ok. Special pleading fallacy.
3. Only parents can have a valid view on how to raise a child. Another special pleading as well as a non-Sequitur fallacy.

You can google peaceful parenting if you want some tips from parents that reason with their children and treat them like human beings and not chattel.

Spanking should be valuable tool in any parent's arsenal. It's not meant to be the day-to-day solution, but it stands as a great deterrent.
All the no-spanking philosophies look great on paper but just don't pan out in practice. Theoretically, people should aspire for complete self-realization, put aside their whimsical desires and work for the collective greater good. And governments should be able to spend us out of economic difficulty by creating artificial demand. But those theoretical constructs don't work either.

I believe in disciplining my kids if the crime fits the punishment... my kid threw a glass dish at me once... should i have told him "no no" and put him in a corner for 5 mins?! wtf does that teach him?! tried it a few times before... know what he did... THE SAME FUCKIN THING and even pushed it a little further by throwing me a attitude! modern day parenting is bull shit. Be friends with your kids, sensitive to their views, blah blah blah, im your father, parent, and then your friend.... the second time he threw the dish i cracked him on his ass sent him to his room for 45 mins and you know what... all my dishes stay in one piece now. Children HAVE TO fear their parents to a certain degree, love will follow, so will respect, and they REMEMBER what happened the last time. it causes them to think twice and act once.
That aside, modern day parenting bs like your babbling about and philosophy ect. means precisely dick in todays world. This crazy fuck who shot up the school for instance, they used modern day parenting... the kids had leisure to do whatever and say whatever with no guide lines at all! they turned out fine right? 27 dead... theres my argument on that one... little shit was taking his mothers assault rifle with her knowing and he had mental issues! but they were friends and shit.. gtfo here with that... my son knows daddy has guns and he knows if he touches them ill break his fingers... FEAR of what MIGHT happen now is all i need... i dont have to hit him now and at 5 years old he is the most well behaved kid ive seen. his friends are bat shit crazy and get put on time outs, driving the parents nuts, and they ask why is my son so well behaved what do i do at home?.. i tell them, we are italian and hes raised 1950's italian even if im 29. all i have to do is give him a look and say cut it out, and he stops. hes still madly in love with me, follows me all over, mimics everything i do, knows the value of a dollar, has manners, and treats elders with respect and very simply does it because he doesnt want to make mom and dad sad or angry... hes a amazing boy...
