Pulled 610 tuesday. Weight just flew up so I figured why not try 640. Broke the floor with it twice but kept popping my hips. Think I mentally blew my wad on the first big one of the day. I'm pretty happy this puts me in the 600+ raw deadlift club (conventional, belt and chalk only). Plus I weighed in at 303 today so that's a more than double bw pull.

Cheers,

Great lift.

Scotland forever!

Oh.. BTW.. you shame me... I've been training as you suggested and pulled 525 clean with no hitch and no straps ( belt only, conventional) last week but that's chump change compared to your lifts.

Nice that is a sick pull bro!!!!! I have been shooting my hips on my heavier work sets lately and my low back is taking a beating. I have only pulled out of the rack the past few months with no pulls from the floor. I am way out of my normal groove. I am going to lower my work set weight and get my groove back so to speak. It sucks because I can pull close to 2 1/2x bw for five out of the rack, but 2x bw off the floor and my form goes to shit after 3 reps even though I have more in the tank.

awesome job scotsman! you making some good progress eh bro? didnt you pull 500 just a few months ago?

I first pulled 500 probably 8 yrs ago but never got to train regularly enough to surpass that. Earlier this year I did my first double with 500, doubled 545, pulled 590 a month ago and now this. I really feel that if I can stay healthy and focused that I'll be hitting 700+ by years end.

yeah i didnt mean the first time, i remember you are coming back from an injury right? at the rate your going you will hit 700+.

i better get my grip under control and bust my ass, your going to leave me in the dust in no time

I basically didn't lift for a little over 18 months due to work. I'd get a week here and there but not much gym time. Just started back to full time training in January. Then I did hurt my back earlier this year so I was out of heavy training for a bit.

I'm starting to really work on grip as I don't want to outgrow it.

Thanks for the vote of confidence man, means a lot coming from a fellow PLer.

Don't be shamed by what anyone lifts man. That's a hell of a pull and you are making progress which is all that matters. Compete with yourself and no one else. If you can find inspiration in others that's great.

im going to order some coc grippers and see what they do for me. with what happened my last meet with my deadlift, i would flip out if my grip failed me again.
you know how you know for sure if your grip is holding you back, just put straps on and do heavy triples or doubles. You may be able to hold on somewhat ok without, but for me now when im trying 650+ for reps if i have straps on the weight feels 50+lbs lighter.

The COC grippers are awesome I have the Trainer, 1, 2, and 3. Got the three down to less than half an inch then stopped using them for a while. I can still close the two for 5-10 reps depending on the day. I find doing grip holds really helps a lot as well and have added them in at the end of my pulling.

I hear you on the straps I use them once I get over 800 on rack pulls. I can manage 3 or so reps at 770 but with straps can hit 6 pretty easy.

yeah your grip is way ahead of mine, ive done 705 for a triple for rack pulls with chalk, thats it. anything above that i need straps if im doing reps. my goal is to do a rack pull with 800 no straps by my next meet, if i can get that im pretty positive i wont have a prblem again for a while

do you do a specific routine with the grippers?

I used to have a big problem with grip and then made it a priority. 800 is huge without straps!!

I'm just getting back to using them but I do sort of a heavy and light day with them. I do the light day on deads/back day and the heavy after squat day (Tues and Fri respectively).

Light day
T- 10 reps
1- 10 reps
2- 10 reps if possible (I'll do forced reps to get to 10)
2- 5 plus a hold for as long as possible
1- 10 reps plus a hold

Heavy day
T- 10 reps
1- 8 reps
2- 4-6 reps
3- close as far as possible then do a forced rep and negative
2- as many reps as possible for two sets

Did you just take time off from pulling or was it a complete gym layoff?

I meant shame only in the sense that your lifts and DaveTSI's are so impressive. I do ok for a guy approaching 50 who has only been working on strength training seriously for 4 years. Prior to that I focused on endurance and flexibility more.

completly off, no work at all

Maybe you were pretty severely overtrained. Were you working in a job that required a lot of repetitive lifting? That builds grip like crazy.
