checking back to another post I put I could lift 550 x 5, that was incorrect as it was for the trap bar not the straight bar version. afaik this is the most i've ever deadlifted for reps with the straight bar.

bw down to 214 this morning, getting there... :coffee:

nice lift bro! Hey, just a quick question...is there any advantage to hitting deads with a grip inside your leg placement? I've been doing them with a slightly wider than shoulders grip, feet about shoulder width apart. Is this wrong?

not really, it all depends on what your leverage is. most top powerlifters pull conventional style (hands outside legs).. I dont really have a choice because of disc problems, can't lower the bar around my knees without potentially crippling myself & with sumo style you dont have to worry about getting it around the knees on the way down.

oh i see. Well you got that shit down! I noticed you weren't using straps. Does chalk really work that well, or do you just have a naturally strong grip? My grip sucks, so I'm not sure if chalk would be of any benefit to me.

heh yeah, that last one wasn't legal :) zxe003 its chicken and egg bro I have a strong grip because I deadlift without straps... go back to '02 and I could hardly hold onto bodyweight. There's no reason to use straps imo, even for partials - look at needsize, he doesnt use them and he's moving heavy weight for reps.

chalk helps soak up the sweat so the bar doesn't slip but it doesnt really help your grip, try to get a deadlifting bar with really deep knurling, that one tears the skin off my hands whenever I use it and I love it! :D

I know, for me atleast, chalk makes a huge difference. My grip gets bad with 495 or less without chalk, and with the chalk I can grip 700+.

Very impressive lift brother! That shit just inspired the FUCK out of me! Hope to see more videos from you! TRAIN OR FUCKIN DIE!!!!

thanks bro! hopefully I'll get 600 on tape next time I deadlift.. once I hit that then its back to high rep, stiff-leg deads for a couple months, give my back a break & bring up my hams a bit.

funny thing looking at those vids is that my lockout is the weakpoint, usually with sumo deads it's the pull from the floor thats the sticking point. doesnt make much sense as I do rack lockouts once a month with 700+.. ah well :p

Awesome brother!! 600 is a goal of mine in the near future as well. Your lockout looked strong in the video, with a slight struggle on the last rep. All the other reps were quick though. I could never get used to sumo, maybe I didnt try it enough. Keep it up brother!!

Congrats Tweakle!! Was lookin for a vid on Sumo Deads to get the form as read right. Does it really help with disc problems? I have some serious disc problems and back is killin me right now after my new PR on Deads yesterday. I'm 6'3" so I'd imagine it would not only shorten the length of the lift but would also help with angling and not arching the back, which is super hard for me especially in the initial lift, + my back is much wider & stronger than my legs.

very solid, I never got the hang of those sumo style deads myself

Damn nice job on the pulls- lockouts get weak first for myself if I am doing reps. Solid grip as well, I got a lot of work to do.

I can't give more karma, but damn that is sick progress over the last few months

thanks :) I love watching lifting vids, got a folder full of them on my pc

tried to get a squatting vid today (465x4) but the f**kin camera batteries died :(

gonna try for a trap bar 660 dl on friday so I'll film that (assuming I get it)
