Another post on being cut...

Is there a visible difference between having "dense" strong muscles vs. a bodybuilders muscles going for hypertrophy?

Some people say some bodybuilders look "blown-up" vs. being "dense" like say a swimmer. Is there anything to this or is it just cause bodybuilders are just so big?

(I've been here long enough to get the message that cutting is about diet :) )

well, if you're after that sports thickness look, i attribute it to just playing sports. or doing power lifts (olympic lifts). this is not for sure, but it sounds pretty logical to me.

My initial guess would be attributed to their size, as you said. Swimmers tend to have more slender bodies with muscle. They're not as big. The lack of bodyfat also helps this, because you never really see a fat swimmer...except on a highschool team where they shouldn't be.

Here's my reasoning: many steroids bloat and make one look puffy. Bodybuilders are probably on higher doses of steroids more frequently than strength athletes. That could be it.

I see a difference in muscle look between people who train with lots of machines and isolation type exercises vs people who train heavier and with whole body compound type lifts

body will become it's function basicly

i dunno if this is right or not, but i think the puffy look could be because of bulking, and or water weight...

for instance, swimmers/athletes do lots of running and motion, so they not only have alot less fat, but alot less water as well.

and my favorite basis, needsize(:D ) seems to prove that not all body builders always look this way...

for instance, in his show pictures that have been posted alot (or you can look at his arm in his avatar) he looks like he has HARD DEFINED batman actionfigure muscles, and he doesnt look puffy at all.

but in his most recent pics, he had gained alot of weight, and probably quite a bit more fat and water than he had in his shows, and he did look a bit puffy.

-hope i made sense, and hope it was right so i dont make myself look like a fool

SublimeZM, it makes sense and I agree with you 100% based on what I know. But I don't know very much, so that's why I asked :)
