another medical question->

What company are you with? Is that a rate for just you?

Why can't you get a life insurance policy? If it is just because your a chiro I guarantee you I can get you coverage.

Disability ins and reasonable rate don't go hand in hand unless it is a piece of shit plan. But at the same time you get what you pay for.

Yes, the rate is specific to my medical history: four years post treatment for a highly malignant cancer with a 50 percent mortality rate in 3-5 years.

Disability premiums in the cases I've looked at (which b/c of my medical hx) are still pretty much unavailable to me, as is the case for life insurance. One company is willing to talk further to me but they have yet to return my call. The one company that went so far as to give me a quote was so outrageous in both premiums and terms that it was easier to just shovel money into mutual funds.

The problem with most chiropractors is that disability premiums appear to be something most chiros think about after they've been out in the field for several years. Due to the nature of the work many injuries are already in full swing by this time so passing the physical is sometimes difficult. The other problem I know of is with high volume practitioners, which I would be considered to be: the higher the patient volume, the higher the risk for insuring them due to both practice financial liabilities and injury risk. It didn't matter to the agent that I was nearly twice his size with half the bodyfat and with an extensive athletic background (believe me, that helps tremendously in terms of dealing with day to day job related aches/strains/pains).

To be honest, I have not really had much opportunity to examine the policies to make a determination of their worth, since a meeting is usually cut short just moments after I fill them in on my medical history. I don't really blame them. The insurance that matters most to me is my health/hospitalization coverage, for which I have a fantastic plan that I will stick with nearly regardless of the rate increase.
