another medical question->

I am pretty sure it is either a slipped disc, periformis syndrome or simple sciatica. I did allot of research online trying to figure it out. I was running on paved hilly terrain, hiking up a mountain 1-2 times a week and doing fast sprints, I think my body just couldn't keep up with it- too much too fast. I have been under major stress the past 6 months too, I'm sure that didn't help. I dont think a doctor could do much for me- I am not interested in pain pills, that wont fix the problem. I tried stretching but it didn't help much. That is why I am thinking of acupuncture. It sucks because I dont really have the money to spend on this(I'm a starving musician-hehe) but I have to just to be able to live without pain. I feel so crappy since I stopped lifting, I feel like a big fat lump even though I am around 180 pounds. Very frustrating. I thank you guys for your advice, I am still not sure what to do. I can either go get x-rays and see what happens with that- not that I could afford surgery if it was necessary or I can risk spending money on acupuncture-in the meantime I am trying to get my core strength back- doing pushups,crunches-whatever isn't painful. Back pain sucks!!!!!!!

:lmao:

yes it's me. ask kingjohn for a pic of my ass! :D

hmmm.....I doubt he would give me a pic of your ass. Anywhoooose....hey spatterson, do you think I should go for the insurance and see a acupuncturist in the meantime? That wouldnt go on any medical record I dont think.

I pay $274 a month to Kaiser, no deductible for Kaiser doctors or referrals, includes prescriptions and allows me to go to outsider providers with a $300 deductible. The premium has basically doubled in the last five years. By the way, they give me testosterone. :)

An alternative to spending so much money is to at the very least buy comparatively inexpensive major medical coverage. It will have a fairly high deductible and will cover medical emergencies.

It amazes me to read stories like Flex's and others here and know that America still refuses guaranteed health care.

Mezz,

90 bucks a month for 100 deductable is pretty cheap. I think my plan through work costs something like 300 +. One consideration is that medical insurance may not cover accupuncture.

If it is you Periformis muscle, I had the same problem about 6 months ago. Stretching and anti inflamatories fixed me. To stretch it, pull your knee to your chest and then while holding both your knee and ankle pull it across your body at like a 45 degree angle. Like I said it worked for me.

I didn't have health insurance for 10 years and I just payed as I went. Every hospital I went to treated me and billed.

Good luck

Mez...it's a good idea to get insurance, and I can make a few suggestions. My husbnd is self employed, so we don't "get" insurance either. By belonging to an association of some kind, sometimes health ins referals are given. For example, we get a cut rate through the American Bar Association because he's an attorney. Same goes for armed force, some credit unions, civic organizations, etc...

You can always call companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield, Fortis, American Medical and ask for rates, or you can call up insurance brokers in your area who will collect that info for you. Then you can compare between brokers for best rate.

There are a couple things you can do to reduce your monthly premium. By selecting a high deductable, which only applies to major medical (hospitalization) you decrease the premium. We set ours at 10,000 because if something major happens to us, 10K won't be hardly ANYTHING compared to the total medical bill. This brings our monthly premium to about $200 for 2 adults and a child. If it had been a $1,000 deducatable it would've been closer to $400 a month.

The second thing is to opt out of maternity coverage. This alone can reduce your premium on the lady. Child bearing age women are EXPENSIVE!

Good luck.

Too late for him to get insurance and have his back covered. Pre-ex wipes that out.

So if I go to a local doctor or hospital I could just get treated and have them bill me? even though I have no insurance?

Mezz: If you live in a city with a county/city-subsidized hospital they are typically required to treat anyone who shows up.

Is that for non life threatening also?
