An honest discussion, just how bad is marijuana on the brain?

LOL. Lemme rephrase that one. I've never enjoyed marijuana enough to use it frequently. There are plenty of other "substances" I prefer for the sheer feeling, but for spirituality I prefer sobriety.

I am a regular pot smoker. no cigarettes, not much drinking, but I like to toke the ganj.. no empty carbs, not much hangover, and with some willpower, the munchies can be ignored (munchies are almost like the eq hunger)

I can only speak for myself, but the only time I can feel effects from smoking is the morning after a good session.. almost like a hangover, its harder to wake up for the first hour or two.

but.... Ive been smoking for years and passed the mensa test the morning after a big session as well as being successful in h.s, college, and in my career as a ganjalist..

I think the weaker minded people are affected more drastically than others..

the effects are going to be different case-to-case... ive got friends who smoke that are burnt out all of the time, and then there are also the people who you wouldnt be able to tell they burn, like me..

And if I cared if you believed me, I would.

That sounds remarkably like you can't back up what you say.

In fact your own reference refers to a study showing effects on longterm memory......how does that happen without affecting the brain? I quote:

"However, there is evidence that marijuana, particularly in high doses, may interfere with users' ability to transfer new information into longterm memory."

Please note that the associated reference does not apply only to high dosages.

The rest of the article doesn't actually say what you wanted it to say. So one study on Rhesus monkeys was wrong.....big deal. So there aren't structural changes in the brain associated with marijuana intake....big deal. The functioning of the brain is slightly more complicated than that!! If the brains functioning was as simple as understanding its structure we would have figured out how it works by now.

Also, notice how your quality reference contradicts itself on several occasions.....all that shows is that your sweeping statements that say that marijuana has no effect on the brain cannot be backed up.....because even the 'experts' cant agree.

Nobody can honestly claim that THC has no effect on the brain.

But you can't take the data collected from NIDA simply because it's biased. On the same note, you can't accept data from pro-pot organizations like the link Havoc provided.

do any of you know pot heads?? Most of them are stupid as fuck and slow about everything. Now are you saying that they were in that condition before the weed?

I know pot-heads who have attained prestigious academic distinctions and a guy who smoked LOADS who became a partner in one of the top law firms in San Fran while still in his twenties. I see guys I knew in High school who can barely keep their job pumping gas or whatever and are obviously smoked out, with the tight voice and everything.

I have read quite a bit about the effect on the brain, but don't really care enough about the issue to regurgitate it. Suffice it to say you can never underestimate the confounding effect of individual physiology, and the effects of THC are cumulative. Think of it like steroids. You go on for a while, it takes a while for the HPTA to rebound. The longer you're on, the longer the rebound (I know this is not true for everyone, individuality again). Pot has a similar effect for a heavy smoker, substitute dopamine for testosterone (to name just one), substitute the hippocampus and the hypothalamus for the testicles (kind of). Occasional use within a timeframe the body can metabolize the THC will not suppress brain function, but if you take a chronic pot smoker and deprive him of pot, he will suffer a neuro-chemical crash. You make him do a test then, and he will score worse than if he were totally fried.

I knew a guy who would give it up before exams. The first time he did it, he only gave himself a month, he said he did crappily because he was totally crashing. He have himself 3 months after that and loaded up with Vasopressin and Deprenyl and all kinds of shit and was in tip-top form. He was a very heavy smoker the rest of the year though. A real wake-and-bake man.

I know a bunch. My little bro is one. Definitely not an idiot, although he does act more subdued now that he smokes all the time. He's not as talkative as he used to be. I gave him some adderall the other day though- hoy fuck!! He talked more than I've heard him talk in a long time. He said, "Yeah, I have all these thoughts bouncing around in my head all the time, but I just don't see the point in talking about it most of the time." A lot of that is just his character though. He's never been the most talkative kid.
