Americans...seriously...why do you hate the metric system?

Becuz I live up in dem hills and I dunt know hows to convertit the meteoretric systems yet. We just deskuvurd the magkneeflying glass and telescoop. I's wunderin win we was gunna get in wit dem der feriners and masure like dem. Good Lard, changin evrythin wood be hard ta do... is it likka feren speekin tawk?

I would much prefer to have the metric system. I have no clue as to why we keep it but my only theory is that the money to change everything from road signs, maps, databases, every single thing that uses our standard would have to be changed. That in it of itself would be a monumental task.

But I wish they would at least try
True, the cost would be high...but can you imagine the savings when you import goods from the far east or any other country (for that matter)? I figured that it would be an easy sell when you take that into consideration.

I don't like it because I can't talk about my "12 inches" anymore... Talking about my "30.48 cm's" just makes me sound freaky.

Like I said man, I totally agree with ya but I'm afraid the American public just doesn't care that much. Society today has no time for such things. No thinking just doing.

I just saw a graph on who's on the imperial system and there are three countries. Two are third world backwater countries while the third is the GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD. . .THE ONLY PLACE WHERE A GUY CAN COME HERE FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY, NOT KNOW THE NATIVE LANGUAGE, WORK HIS ASS OFF AND BE A FUCKING MILLIONAIRE IN TEN FRIGGIN' YEARS.. Why? THAT'S WHY.

I figured that having a standardized measurement would make the supply chain processes easier.

all the rest of those countries that look down their fucking noses at us think nothing of excluding large portions of their population from getting ahead with their unadvertised but still VERY REAL caste systems. . .where you are born into a certain walk of life and that's all the further you can ever hope to ascend no matter how hard you work.

3 billion other people are doing it. can 3 billion people be wrong?? yes! frequently. and then. . .when they get their metric asses in trouble, who the fuck do they come running too???? that's right. . .the greatest country in the world. . .the one that's always willing to help others, sometimes even our enemies, when they're down. . .fuck the rest of the world. . .they can stick the metric system up their 13mm asses. . .

No idea why we don't just standardize everything. The arguement back in the day was everyone will have to buy two sets of tools. Everyone had to buy two sets of tools anyways. 32 degrees 0 degrees so what either way it's cold. Kilogram, 2.2 lbs. if everyone uses kilos you don't need to know that and strangely I think a lot of people in the US know how to measure things in kilo's.

Not sure what the myth of Horatio Algers has to do with the metric system, but that still doesn't explain why the US still likes it.

Thanks for trying though.

Well, I'm not going to go so far as say to standardize everything. You wouldn't want to standardize things that give you a competitive advantage. :)

I use it regularly, I measure my food in grams and I speak in terms of meters when describing distances.
