Hundreds of years ago...most sports or variations of most sports came from Britain if trace back early enough but the reason i'm using them as an example is because they are such popular global sports. The basic point is that we follow sports we aren't even good at.

that's because most countries don't have the resources and talent pool to be globally dominant in the sports they love.

Don'y you find it amusing that America have their own version of the olympic medal table and that they barely give Bolt a mention behing Phelps?

I wonder how many jamaicans are talking about phelps?...also, how many golds does bolt have? like 10 less than phelps? world records are broken all the time. It is very rare to become the all time gold medal leader

I think it's a bit different in Jamaica as it's such a small and relatively poor country. Their guy has taken athletics to a whole new level and his events have always been the highlight of the Olympic Games. He did what people didn't think was possible. Phelps has done great to win those medals but Bolt barely even got a mention on American news sites and most people in the world will remember him over Phelps in years to come.

It's a matter of opinion, not about being right or wrong, and 3 billion enjoy it as opposed to the far smaller number that follow American, made-for-tv sports.
