American Idol last night

Did anybody else catch Clay Aiken sing "Solitaire?"

That kid just trancended greatness.

Simon made a very interesting observation. He said Clay was able to take the criticism he had received like an adult an learn from it. It was amazing to see. This kid is growing up and transforming into an unfathomable talent before our eyes. I've never seen an artist grow so much in such a short time.

Neil Sedaka's comment was, "I'd kill for the chance to write and produce your first CD."

is he going to win or are they going to give in to politically correctness and give it to ruben or kimberly ?

i think josh is gone this week, he was horrid

Yes,that was unbelievable...It's going to be very hard to choose between him and Ruben, they are both amazing vocalists.Hopefully both of them get a signed deal out of this, they both are extremely gifted.

because kelly was white, so maybe they would want the winner to be a minority this time, so that record sales would appeal to a different market, since kimberly and ruben are black and clay is white.

Why does giving it to Ruben or kimberly have to be a politically corrrect move?

Agreed...Both of those mo-fo's have serious chords, let's not turn them winning into some racial thing. If they win it's because they beat out SEVENTY THOUSAND participents from various talent trials. It could be ANYBODY standing there at the end, from ANY race. They got there and will win or lose based on what they can bring to the table, and the ability to sell music to the mass public.

I think Trenyce has the best "pop-star" look out of any of them. Her voice and presentation are pretty good as well, in my opinion.

political correct move? what are you talking about. the idots who call in are the once who choose who wins or not.

At this point they all have a sure thing at a successfull career,
whether they win American Idol or not.
All of the remaining will get contracts with somebody for something;
nobody's going back to Alabama to be a grocery sacker.

bullshit, the network controls the votes, who wins, their contract after that, and definatly a fat piece of the earnings

the winner will be whoever they decide will make them the most money

exactly

the whole point of the show is to make money obviously, not only through commercials and the actual show, but taking advantage of the stars they make

just last nite they were hyping the upcoming 'american idol 2' tour

the winner gets a record made, and no doubt someone behind the scenes gets a big cut

the show is a great tool to promote a performer and then make everyone rich

actualy what i just said didn't realy make sense

they figure with the last show/record they tapped into the white consumer with kelly, so now they will try to tap into the minorities that didn't buy kelly's record by making ruben , or kimberly, a star

Clay, Ruben, and Kimberly are all awesome. Ruben hasn't given anything other than a great performance yet... and Kimberly's rendition of WHERE THE BOYS ARE last night was off the scale. If Clay hadn't hit "Solitaire" we'd be talking about her.

Kimberly and Ruben are definitely awesome. They are both deserving of top careers... and I don't think there is any doubt that Ruben is walking out of this into a recording contract.

bullshit, if that was the case the fruity looking dude would be gone.

clay ?

maybe you weren't paying attention, runner up last year was justin, a flaming fruitcake, the winner matters much more then the runners up, because they get the record deal

clay isn't fruity, just boyish, and his voice can't be denied

I agree.
She is the one with the most complete package.. talent plus looks.

how come the one episode I watched simon said basically that he liked to listen to the fruity guy with his eyes closed. And simon is the guy who has major pull on the show besides being the creator.

anyway, I'm not looking to get into an arguement over something as stupid as american idol, however I don't think political correctness has anything to do with who wins. If it's as you say and the network controls who wins, then they will choose somoene who will MAKE THEM MONEY.

i think simon said that because clay used to make all those weird faces when he would sing

i don't like arguing over this either, im ashamed i already put this much effort into this thread

please don't tell my friends

Oh great.... next thing you 2 will arguing about is who would win a fight between Data and Whorf.

LOL,Simon has literally spit a loogey in every single person's face in that entire show at one time or another.Clay not only worked on the facial tics, but improved his overall appearance(hair, clothes, etc)drastically.Like SG said in the original thread,he listened and acted on any criticisms very well, and he really only lacked in the marketability standpoint. His voice was always outstanding.

I agree. I absolutely adored his "Build Me Up Buttercup" performance. He's an awesome performance. I will admit he was a bit dramatic, but I think he's terrific. Plus, he's a good ole Southern boy. ;)

Ruben is beyond words. I absolutely wish that there could be two winners from this show. It would be definitely be him and Clay. I think that the final choice will come down to those two, and the American people are going to have a tough time choosing. Ruben is definitely a teddy bear though, very cuddly. ;)

The rest of the final 5...hmmm. Josh is definitely a country singer. I think if he were on Nashville Star, he would be doing much better than he is now. I like him though. He's sweet. Trenyce kicked ass last night with her performance of Proud Mary. I don't think she holds a lot of chance in the competition though. Kimberly has a big chance. She can sing, and she has a look about her. She, Ruben, and Clay will be the final three, but I think it will end up with Clay coming out on top.

Two winners? From where I sit there are three winners already... actually 12 winners.

Clay, Ruben, and Kimberly are a lock for recording careers after this. And all 12 of the top finalist are going to be touring with the show for a year when it goes on the road. This is the best year American Idol ever had... all the top 12 were good... some like Trenyce and Kimberly Caldwell are very outstanding... even if not in Clay and Ruben's league.

That tour is going to get a lot of notice... and all those kids are going to learn a lot this year. They will all be better performers for the experience. Everybody wins.

i disagree george , kimberly caldwell suck
the two blondes that made it far , i cant remember who was who , they were hideous

one had terrible zit-age, ego blondes who sucked

I watched American Graffitti last night. for the 100th time. Almost as good as Hollywood Nights and Animal House!

Kimberly Caldwell doesn't suck. She actually has it. She just hasn't gotten tha confidence to use it. Randy Jackson made the right call on her... just like Simon made the right call on Carmen... each of them has an incredible talent.. but they haven't reached the ability to tap it. Kimberly hit her master's performance the night before she was booted. She left on a very high note. She showed she learned how to take a chance.

I didn't think that Carmen was that talented actually. Kimberly, yes. She had charisma, and that is a huge factor.

who got voted off tonight?

Trenyce got the boot but it was well undiserved. Rhe only reason josh is still in it is b/c he's in the military and people are big on supporting them right now. If he was a bartender he'd have gotten the boot after 70's night.

Carmen sounds like Goat Boy from Saturday Night Live. She had no business making it as far as she did.

Kimberly Caldwell will never be a recording artist. She'll end up being a host on MTV, or E! or something like that.

I can't believe that Ruban was voted into the bottom two.

Thats' whay you get when you let a bunch of 12 year old girls voting.

Did you catch the cuts of Josh the Marine. He was off to the corner and it looked like he was crying. The only interpretation I had was that he was actually humiliated that he wasn't in the bottom two. He knows he deserves to go.

Damn.... Ruban was in the fucking bottom two?!??!

FUCK

C-ditty

it was just a tease to make you like him more like an underdog in the NCAA tournament

make him more of a fan favorite, sell more records and tour tickets

Something was SERIOUSLY amiss with that voting last night...How in the fuck does the BEST singer, hands down in the entire competition, who has NEVER had an off night, get placed in the bottom, and the one who doesn't even belong in that group be allowed to stay up there? What a crock of bullshit.Simon summed it up well. This is about who is the best SINGER,not about popularity. He asked people to bare that in mind when voting.

It was easy to figure the voting. Clay and Kim gave unfathomably brilliant performances... and Trenyce did her best ever. Hence, they siphoned the vote from Ruben. Ruben was brilliant... but he is ALWAYS brilliant. It doesn't stand out anymore. Clay and Kim are hit and miss... so when they hit a great performance they steal the show. Ruben... you just expect him to be great and take it for granted.

And Josh is now facing the double edged sword of his popularity. He is a boy band singer with good looks and some good talent. He can give Garth Brooks a run for his money on some country tunes... but he definitely isn't in league with teh others. Hence, his popularity is grossly over shadowing his talent. It's embarrassing for him.

What does he say? "Don't give me the winning slot. I don't deserve it."

Josh it going to try hard to step it up next week... and it will be his last performance... one way or another.

If he doesn't get cut next week... the backlash will end his career.

I think he knew he should have gone. He knew it. And I am surprised that he wasn't in the bottom 2.
