ok, serious question - i have been practically living over at my gf's house for the past whatever, and as of lately, all 3 (her, her roommate, and yours truly) of us have been feeling like shit. i'm talking nausea. splitting headaches, flu like symptoms.

ok, sounds normal, right? well, i thought so to. however, when we woke up this morning we saw all 3 of her hamsters, in 3 different cages, dead in the bottom of their cages. they were fine just yesterday, and all of the suddent, all 3 die at the same time? that seems like a bit of a stretch to just be a coincidence.

she doesnt exactly live in the best apartment complex, so i am wondering if it is carbon monoxide poisoning or if someone under us is cooking up meth or something.

shit like this just does not happen.

You should take the dead hamsters to a CDC Lab & have an autopsy done...

But it sounds like Blood Parasites, to me...

Good Luck with that.

:)

Sounds like mold or carbon moonioxide posoining you should get that looked at since both can cause serious problems and/or death!!

do you know anyone with a carbon monoxide detector you could borrow? you should have one in your house as much as you should have a smoke detector.

Dont downplay mold either. THeir are lots of nasty very dangerous molds that can get inside walls from moiture build up af a house with improper vapor building envelope. Especially if it is built on a crawl space. Molds you cant see or smell can kill! Lots of insurance companies once they realize that a house has mold will not insure it anymore

can you test for that type of thing?

doesn't that cost money?

Ummm... I don't know, but do SOMETHING. That ain't right. It's not a meth lab, as you'd smell that from a mile away.

I'm not sure who you'd call for that kinda thing. Maybe just the police? They could probably point you in the right direction, at least. And they should be free.

That's pretty much the first thing that would come to mind... One should be able to buy a tester from Wal-Mart or something, use it, and then return it once the solution is found.

about 2 weeks ago, the heat was running non-stop. we would have it turned all the way off, and still, the apartment was in the 80's.

so, my gf called the landlord and had it fixed, so the thermostat wasnt going bat shit crazy. it still acts a bit weird, but not too much.

i wonder if that has anything to do with it?

and we have a carbon monoxide detector, but the alarm on it never went off.

check batteries

If you feel better son after leaving the place then yeah its most likely carbon monoxide/dioxide. Severe fatigue is the main symptom.

the building workers found mold, but they said not to be concerned, because there wasn't much. how often do you get mold around windows at an elevation of 5600+ feet?

All mold needs is moisture and bacteria.

I believe lichen is a mold species...growing very high.

Talk to other tenants in the building.

The mold around the windows is likely fed by common condensation. The paint may have been of a cheap grade and lacked stuff to prevent mold growth.

It would be rare to have dangerous mold at your location.

Have you experienced cold spells at night?

i dont see how this place gets any mold. it is never humid here.

they said they tested the air, but i didn't see any HVAC system running for 24 hours. and how could they test the air and have samples back from a lab in > 1 hour?

this is what you get when you look for cheap rent; a parking lot filled with beer/liqour bottles, no one who can speak english to save their life, and now mystery plague.

Windows get condensation because it is warm inside and cold outside. Thats your humidity factor.

I suspect they used cheap paint that didn't contain mildewcides. You could buy a little bottle of mildewcide at Home Depot/Lowes for a couple bucks. It is a paint additive.

Maybe the place got moist years ago and some spores grew?
