Always bloated after eating?!?!?!

velvett

Lately no matter what I eat, regardless of amount or type of food I'm instantly bloated with an extended hard stomach that lasts for hours. (6-12 hours)

I mean anything.

Greens & veggies
Fruits
protiens
and various carbs (good and bad)

Bloated and in bed.

:bawling:

What do you think it is?
Anyone else experience this?

Is there anything at all different you've been eating lately? Something that could possibly give you a allergic reaction?

Are you also tired, sluggish?

OR, have you been following a low-carb diet?

Or have you recently switched to a different brand of protein powder?

how much fluid do you drink with your food?

i notice it more with carbs, pro/fat meals dont leave me full like that, just satisfied. carby meals leave me sort of gasping for breath/breathing at the top of my chest. bloated.

did you go a period of time with low volume foods? could be your stomach is shrunken a bit.

I have this problem too. And there is no rhyme or reason to it -- I have not changed anything......at least that I know of.

Curious to see what other replies come in.

But Velvett -- it is awful....nothing makees me feel better. In the office, I am fantasizing about sweat pants at work since I sit in torture in hose and skirts.

No.

It's possible - every week that goes by I feel that I get an allergic reaction to everything (hives, swollen face and eyes, etc)

Tired for months now.

Low carb? Not really as of late - I tend to eat things that do not come from a box.

No.

About 2 pints give or take.

I have not noticed a big difference with the bloat between higher carb or higher protein meals. Higher protien meals tend to be smaller in volume but more filling - yet higher carb tend to digest much quicker.

No, not really.

How long since you've had a check-up or any bloodwork done? Are you on any medications? The symptoms you're having could be any number of things, but sounds like you've been suffering on your own long enough and need a medical opinion.

Maybe you can try some proteases = protein digesting enzymes

like pepsin, papain, and bromelain

I used to have that same problem. I try to eat a clean and healthy diet. And for the longest time my stomach would ALWAYS hurt. I ended up going to the doctor about it b/c all I wanted to wear was sweatpants. They did some blood tests and everything. And he asked me if I ate dairy products. I don't usually; sometimes for b/f I will have yogurt or cottage cheese. He told me that I could be lactose intolerant and told me to cut dairy products out for two weeks. (So you might try that if you eat dairy products.) That didn't work for me. So they narrowed down and I have an ulcer. They prescribed some medicine for me and now I don't generally have that problem. I just can't eat as many leafy veggies(spinach, leaf lettuce, etc.) as I used to.

I LOVE the bloated feeling...especially just before I take a nap...

Seriously...no idea what to tell you...

How did they diagnose the ulcer and what meds did the doc perscribe?

The symptoms you describe could be so many things. But since it has gone on for so long and you say it has affected your quality of life, you really need to go see a Gastro Doc. or Doc of Int. Med.

We could guess hundreds of things, and suggest numerous things for you to try, but never get it right. Why prolong your suffering and potentially incur irreparable physical damage that way.

I don't wish to sound overly melodramatic, or scare you with the following. Your post hits very close to home with me, please indulge me and my soapbox, if you will.

My sister had 'stomach' problems for a few years during secondary school, college, and university. Her symptoms were vague and not always exactly the same; bloating, discomfort, occasional 'stomach virus', and sometimes stress seemed to make it worse. However, she didn't wish to take time away from her studies and work for a doctors visit. (In reality she was avoiding/fearing hearing bad news.)

She FINALLY went to the Doc after finishing her Ph.D., only to discover she has Crohn's disease. BECAUSE OF HER DELAY, her small intestine is riddled with scar tissue. She has numerous fistulas, and has permanently lost use of a third of her intestine.

Now, some of that damage would have occurred naturally due to the disease. But, her delay in getting control of the problem allowed it to progress far more rapidly than necessary.

Do yourself a favour and get checked out by good doc, or better yet a good G.I. doc.

To BikiniMom-

After doing all the blood work and even stool samples(DISGUSTING I MUST SAY) they all came back negative. They checked for viral or bacterial and even parasite infections. So they did an MRI and the medicine they prescribed was Prevacid. It has helped me ALOT!!!!!!

I've found that if I eat broccoli, caluiflower, corn, peas, carrots, any vegy's like that, It sits in my stomach like a ROCK. If eaten two days in a row, I'll wake up in the middle of the night from something poking me in my stomach. I'm bloated with HORRIBLE gas that won 't come out, I feel like a ballon, plus I get CONSTIPATED which makes it even worse! If I stick to the green leafy vegys I'm ok. It could be you are similiar to me and it's just that having that kind of vegy and it's reaction lasts for days. I was craving broccoli and had it for dinner for two nights, now I am paying for it with a GUT! arghh. Try cutting out those types of vegys for a week, use all the dark green leafy ones.

While I don't want to guess a diagnosis, there was recently an article in Oxygen magazine about Candida. Symptoms included digestive problems like bloating, but what caught my eye was also the mention of hives and extreme tiredness. The women in the article mentioned undergoing various medical tests which came out "normal", so you should still see a doc, but keep this in the back of your mind if your tests don't show anything.

Bloated and in bed.

A few questions. Do you have more bloating fter different foods?? It could be a food allergy. Wheat could be a BIG culprit here as it is in almost everything in the US. I have an allergy to it and bloat BIG TIME if I eat it. Candida(yeast) can also cause this. I would do a 3-5 day detox, and colon cleanse and then track what you eat, and if bloatin occurs.

My ex wife is italian, austrian...she had all the symptoms you guys are talking about... we went thru hell, especially her...OK, CHECK THIS OUT-... CILIAC SPRUE.... this is an allergy to GLUETIN, which is in everything we fucking eat....there is a web site on this disease which is mainly indigenous to italian women in italy or other european countries...SERIOUSLY CHECK THIS OUT it can save you alot of time and heartache, and pain...main thing is allergy to gluetin...there is a whole planet dedicated to gluetin free foods...this change in diet will suck, but no more instant pregnancies after eating..any more questions feel free to contact me...PBR..

YES, she was tested for this...it came up neg.. but posItive for CILIAC...VERY SIMILAR syptomologies. good post..

I would heed PBR's words well. He has much to offer. Bit rough on the edges, but nothing you damsels can't polish off with ease....

Wow, great responses.

Thank you.

I've already ruled out most food allergies for two reasons.

1 - most *typical* food allergy food I don't eat because they are migraine triggers (nuts, chocolate, citrus)

2 - I really don't eat Gluten, wheat or casein and when I do (rye bread or oatmeal) I don't notice anymore of a significant discomfort than I do when I eat and animal flesh and greens.

Spoke to a dermatologist about hives and eczema and she felt it was due to hormones, environmental factors and stress.

yay me.

I may have found the right new doctor for me - someone that won't had me a script every time I ask for guidance.

kept your fingers crossed.

If I find out anything that I think would be helpful to others I'll post up.

Again - thanks for all the replies.

:) - greatly appreciated

I've been having the same problem, only when I eat whole grains. I get horribly, horribly bloated and [as gross as it is] gassy. I tried eliminating all the other culprits, and as soon as I went a day with no whole grains, voila! Problem solved.

It's just so weird, though. I don't break out into hives, and I don't get sick to my stomach. I just get painfully bloated. I still don't get it, really, but it looks like it'll be gluten-free for me...

I have a classmate with a similar problem. She's a slim gal and she said she would bloat up like she was pregnant. I forgot what her diagnosis was (sorry), but she started doing macrobiotic eating and it cleared up. I will ask her what the diagnosis was and report back.

I have bloating/digestive issues when I eat more wheat based products, especially if I combine them with protein. Oatmeal, rice, and corn-based products seem to be ok for me, in moderation. Meat and veggies works great.
