Altered Squat Suit! Squats Went Ok!

Well first off the heavy ass briefs along with a suit makes for some uncomfortable squatting! Wasnt going to pull up straps at all but figured instead of testing raw strength (i was going to just do 725 no suit) i needed to test my equipment and see if the suit was altered to my benefit. Felt too tight until the end, went like this
warmups
bar x 10 reps 4 sets
135x 10 reps 3 sets
225x 5 reps 2 sets
315x 5 reps
405x 3 reps with suit bottoms and briefs TIGHT as HELL!
500x 2 reps TIGHT
585x 1 rep
675x 1 rep added knee wraps still tight
725x 1 rep loosed lever belt 1 notch. Felt better
765x 1 rep straps up to see if the alteration worked. Felt good!

All were a scant high. The 765 was 1 inch high. But i didnt plan on breakin any records or finding openers. Just wanted to see if i can squat in my gear. And i think i can! I will break plane next week and i might tag 800 to feel it. But seriously i need 700 plus to evn come close to breakin parallel. My hip support is way tight but the suit being altered so my chest can breath worked good. It actually for a change felt better with straps up. So i will keep posted next week as well. Over all good night. It all felt light as hell! I knwo if the meet was in my gym and in my rack i could hit 825 or so.

By the way to get used to my gear i didnt want to fight balance and my gear so these were done facing the mirror. After next week i will turn back around.

he is..indeed he is... first he benches close to my total and now he squats close to my total... this isnt fair!

congrats pljay!

800 is but a workout or two away!

my new canvas still isn't here so i decided to play a little this week. i did blue bands (doubled at the bottom, looped 3 times at bar) + 200 lbs of chain + some raw weight for speed.

The funny thing i noticed tonight was that i wasn't particularly fast on my speed, but when i took singles and widened my stance, i was strong as an ox.

i finished with 425 raw weight + 200 lbs chain + the above band tension and it was EZ. I am going to take 700 lbs of raw weight in 2 weeks off the box.

once that canvas is here, lookout booooyyy....

oh yeah... my dreams of 242 for my next meet are fading fast.

i weighed in at 265 yesterday...... doooohh....

You're doing about 15 warm up sets......how long does this take you?

Do you call it a day after you've squatted?

Thanks speed kills!

Irish , dam bro you are strong as an ox. I am no familiar with chains at all. But i knwo how they work. I actualy thought of getting a canvas, but decided to just stay in my hard core suit. My alteration was to have it cut ou tin the middle like Garry Franks and other biggens have them. Were your chest and gut can breath. I will go 805 next week. That will be my last heavy lift until the meet 5 weeks a way.

screwball, if i try i can get it on my self. I have done it. But i have tapout pullup on it while i shift my body around. Basically it fits better whne someone else helps me in it.

ZZuluZ, i have no set amount of warmups. Sometimes i walk the treadmill , or strecth alot. This time while we were all getting ready and talking we just hit what was on the bar till we felt loosend up. At a meet it will not b ethe same. And alot of times whe nwere pre contest mode in our squat training, we do call it a day after squats. Off season we box squat and that doesn ttake as much time. We then hit reverse hypers and shit. BUt we did that on Tues.

From the time we quite messin around and if we were timed it was an hour and a half. I actually give my self more time then normal on Friday squat day. But leg day isnt that long. I did a ton of extra sets to warm up plus i waited for Jimmie Dean , so i messed around so we could move at the same pace. Thos warmups up to 225 are no gear and just little quick ones. That dont even count. Plus suitin up takes time, along with waiting between so i can breath good on my heavies. But on normal suit day is 1 1/2 hours. Regular leg day Box squats, reverse hyper , ETC same time. But we do more those days.

Sorry bro i am not a one hour and leave westsider yet! Shit i stay longer my wife works till 9 pm on fri and i got both my kids to watch so I can stay longer on fridays. Other days if it runs 1 1/2 hours fine if it approaches 2 hr i leave. I never train longer then 2 hrs. But keep in mind there is a few of us also.

squat days alway seem to take forever too for me for some reasons.

1. i have to drink coffee and take stimulants for at least 45 minutes beforehand... its just a ritual.. some things shouldnt be changed

2. it takes me 20 minutes to get down to the box before i can even start my speed. if i hurry it up any longer, my speed is so slow, i look like a geriatric walking across walmart

3. there are four of us. we stick 3 of us on my monolift and the really tall guy out on squat posts. it seems to take a while because of varying weight and height

4. when we take heavies after speed, it always takes a little prep work to get psyched, etc. its gonna suck even more when i put canvas suit on.

i just dont see how the westside guys can move SO fast if they have different height or different strength lifters.

my squat workout usually takes 1.5 - 2hrs long and all we do is squat and 1 other exercise that day

however: i do believe that the body isnt particularly productive when forced to train more than 45 - 1hr so every OTHER day besides squats is kept to this time limit.

Hey Irish, what kind of suit are you getting? Is it being modified or are you still waiting on the original?

The guys at Westside that have similar strength levels train together. That way they use the same weights on the bar. They have a small box that they pile mats on to make up for the different levels of boxes that would be used for different lifters. They still only take about 20-30 minutes to do dynamic days.

From what I have seen...and working out at Bob Youngs gym...the reason that they are that fast is EVERYONE works as a TEAM...everyone has a job and they do it...NO BS.

Try splitting up into groups of 2. 2 Lifters...and the others loading and working the monolift. Alot can be done in 15-20sec...if you all work together..and "know your roll" before the bar first moves. That way the man on deck only has to step in when the bar is loaded and WORK.

Right now The Asylum (my gym) has 3 lifters. The other two are of comprable strength so they lift together. While I am warming up I help them with loading and adjusting box heights between sets. Then they do the same for me as I lift alone. Then they start their assistance exercises...and I follow one "station" behind them so to speak. If you work as a team you can accomplish so much more than if you train as individuals.

Hey Irish keep me posted on your squat suit progress i was really thinkin gof getting one. But they look so uncomfortable. Do you squat in one now? Or is the one coming your first canvas?

Crap PLJ,

765 felt good,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 800 next wk.

Well I guess ya know what this means,,,,,,,,,,,,, I'm buying a case each of Snickers and Gatorade tommorrow!!!!!!!

AWESOME lifts Bubba!!!!!

PS, Is Lemon Lime the best for strength or the fruit punch kind??
LOL:D

Thanks Jay, I was just gaining some perspective. I didn't realize some of those workouts lasted so long.

Cortisol is released after 45 minutes of training. A question I have is whether or not this factors in stretching and warm-ups........

Maybe Arioch knows.

-Zulu

Streching does not count in the cortisol release , But once i start to break a sweat on the warmups i start the clock.

You guys are far too technical for me! I mean shit whenyour suitin up or shirtin up you are not training hard, you are lifting alot but those are not actual times and evven so, if they do run 2 hrs some days, counting the clock for cortisol is just not in my relm. Shit what if your training light or not straining hard. Does that factor in it? Ya'll need to just lift and leave the technical equasions in the lab!

My workouts long or short have netted me big numbers! And bigger in the future. If i start counting my pulse between sets and taking blood pressure before and after and counting my cortisol realeasing or whatever it does, it just adds to abunch of shit i dont wanna think about. I am too busy testing equipment and getting stronger to worry about my body's natural release's of substances.

Not flaming you guys at all i am sure your 100% correct but i think you did your homework a little too much! If you really dug deep i am sure there is a reasonable explanation that powerlifting is BAD for you. I mean when i am done squatting and there is blood coming from my eyes that cant be good!

i think an aerobics instructor once told me squatting was bad for my knees... pljay, you should do some leg presses and sissy-squats for real growth.

seriously, i think you just cant do 2-3 hour workouts all the time, but there is no getting around it sometimes.

besides... where would you RATHER be on a friday night in the gym squatting???

/irish

I ate three meals a day and in between i ate a snickers and gatorasde liek every 2 hours all day. Gained a ton of strength and size. Tookmy bench from 490 to 520 in that time frame. I heard JM blakely did so i tried it. Now in my home town its a little inside joke for strength. Bottom line is works!

Irish its the suit day sthat take up all the time. But when we all free squat its between an hour and a half and 2 hours. Box squats last about an hour or less. Then other shit.

Hell my post squat workout drink is Budweiser draft! I bet that makes all of ya'll cringe! I love Fridays!
