Why do you need a silencer?

What state are you in?

I would tell you to get a Glock 19 (.9), 23(.40) OR 26 (.9) or 29 (.10) for home protection.

The 19 would be good for girl or someone with small/medium hands (or 23), low profile (all of them) and less recoil.

1000 rounds .9 is $150
500 rounds .40 is $80

Oh and make sure that you both learn how to use, clean and maintain the gun. Go to your local gun shop and have him take apart the gun so you can see how easy it is to take a part/ put together and so you can see how the gun works.

Two more thoughts.

If you intend to leave your girlfriened with a loaded gun in a house alone make sure she is prepared to pull the trigger and defend herself if someone is in the house. If she can not or if you can not don't get a gun and have it in the house.

Practice at a gun range (or the like) often.

I have the model you are referring too. It is their tacticle model and will tell you, it shoots better than any other hand gun I own. Be ready for some recoil though, because it has it. Unbelieveably accurate though. I have LITERALLY put mine through everything and it never misses a beat. I had a buddy that dropped a $1,000 plus sig in the river where it was submerged until the next day. After it was cleaned it would only fire one round and then jam. You could not give me a sig. The only thing I'd do with a sig is sell it for an H&K or Glock. Look around on www.auctionarms.com for one. You can usually find them there for $900 or less. Awesome weapon, I highly reccomend it.

We don't really have to think about this in Canada, because if someone was to break in and I shot him I would probably go to jail. But if i was to get something it would be a shotgun. I have a 12g Stainless Steal thats only 3 feet long. Especially if your girl had to use it, when your being confronted you want something that doesn't require very accurate aim and something that will not go far. Don't want it going through a wall an hittin your neighbor in the ass or something. Also when I go hunting a slug from a shotgun will drop the deer instantly where as my rifle will not.

Break into your house and you would go to jail if you shot him?!?!? Tell me your kidding HL - Manny this is not true is it? Where I come from there would be a barbecue and picnic afterwards.

Yep thats the one, HK usp thanks to the one who left the link! This gun wouldnt be just for my girl but for myself as well. After looking at that link I am thinking the .40 HK usp FOR SURE!

H&K USPs are reliable and accurate. Since it's for your girl, I'd have her try one and decide by herself. Some people may like the grip, others not. Another good option would be the Walther P99 since it comes with 3 different backstrap.

My mom is going to get me a pistol for the bday. I saw an HK at the gun show that had threads for a silencer. I didnt catch the model, if any of you know help me out. Also do i want a .9 or a .45 for target shooting and for home protection for my girlfriend when i am away. thanks

Dude you know how bad ass it would be if we could still get silencers. I have always wanted one. I have made several but its just not the real thing. Oh and a .30-.30 is way louder that a 12ga and it would make some one faint.

depending on what state you are, yes silencers are still available (Class III).

Just look at any FFL dealer with Class III items (out of Cali of coruse). If they dont have any in stock, then at least you'll be able to have one shipped there from a website.

What he said. Getting a .45 for a home defense weapon and putting it in the hands of someone untrained is not a smart move. A shotgun just needs to be pointed in the general direction.

Wrong! Average bedroom is 10x12 or so, lets stretch that out to 15ft. the shot pattern at 15’ with a 12guage even with a modified or improved cylinder choke is going to be far less that the size of your hand. They only spread out to 30” or so at 30yards that’s 150’!

Also long arms like shotguns are a lot easer to take away from someone. I’m not saying they have no place in home defense but its not just swing, shoot and hit.
