Wildlife authorities have killed an alligator that attacked an 11-year-old
boy this afternoon in Slidell and have recovered the boy's arm from inside
the alligator.

St. Tammany Sheriff's Office officials say a boy and two girls were
swimming in a lake behind the Kingspoint subdivision when an alligator
attacked an 11-year-old boy and bit his arm off at the shoulder.

Sheriff's spokesman Captain George Bonette says deputies working in the
subdivision ran a mile to get to the boy and get him out of the water.
They pulled the boy out of water, and is being airlifted to Ochsner
Hospital in the New Orleans.

Officials have hooked and killed the alligator, and have recovered the
boy's arm, and are rushing the arm to the hospital.

That's so fuck up. I can remember wade fishing in Lake Orange at my aunts as a kid. You would be 100 yards from shore and turn around to see a gator between you and the bank. I almost always had a bait bucket filled with shiners tied to my belt :worried: I feel really bad for the poor kid, but you can't blame the gator. It is a wild animal that has had its habitat infringed upon. With more and more development taking place these wild animal have no place to go. Very sad story.

Moral of the story, don't swim with gators.

Particularly gators that are so accustom to humans that they get fed almost daily and have names like "Big Joe".

LOL -- well there's your problem!

Yep ... from years of working in the swamps of S.E. Louisiana I can tell you a gator accustom to and fed by humans near a pumping station is a different animal than the ones you encounter deep in the Atchafalaya Basin.

just sayin'
