Alcohol and amoxicillin

Sub-Zero

i know there have been previous threads about drinking while on meds and its said that it lowers the effectiveness...

do yall think if i take 3 antibiotics today (which is the 24 hour dose and i wont be contagious anymore) then 1 at bfast tomorrow, 1 at lunch tomorrow (as prescribed) and then the prescribed 1 at dinner, it would be fine to drink tomorrow night....not a whole lot and only tomororw night.

considdering its a 10 day prescription 3x a day, so basically if it weakens it it will only weaken one of the pills and ill already not be contagious. and still take 8 more days worth after that

hahahahahaah
dang sub ur home sick with the flu?

speaking of doctors though i made an awsome joke but the dr didnt laugh... either she was offended or didnt get it.

so shes like "wow you have really big tonsils"
and i said in a sexy voice "thats what all the doctors say"

Amoxicillin & Alcohol
Is it safe to drink alcohol while taking the antibiotic Amoxicillin?

In general, it is not a good idea to combine alcohol with prescription medications, but when it comes to Amoxicillin and alcohol there is no direct contraindication. With that being said, please keep in mind that if you have been sick enough to warrant taking an antibiotic, you should probably avoid drinking alcohol as well. If you absolutely feel the need to have a drink& keep it in moderation!

A few nights ago I drank to the point that I blacked out. The next day I was talking to my friend and he said, that last night was great. I had no idea what he was talking about, so I asked him. He was sort of like, you don't remember... I guess that I gave him oral sex. But I don't remember and I wouldn't have done it if I was sober. So I guess my question is...was I raped?

I do hope that you are starting to feel better from your tonsillitis. Ten days is quite a long course of antibiotics to take so I suspect that you have been quite poorly with your throat. There are no particular side effects to drinking alcohol with amoxicillin, which is a penicillin based antibiotic. Like all antibiotics, it is best taken on an empty stomach and I normally suggest that it is taken some time before drinking alcohol so that there is plenty of time for the antibiotic to get absorbed from the stomach.

The main side effects of penicillin-based antibiotics are nausea and diarrhoea and as these can also be the side effects of an overdose of alcohol, it can sometimes be difficult to tell which side effects are which! For this reason, I usually suggest that people keep their alcohol to the minimum when on medication. Get better soon!

heya, pharmacist in case i havnt shouted it from the rooftops enough ;)

bit of advice: TAKE YOUR MEDS EXACTLY HOW IT SAYS ON THE DAMN CONTAINER

dont fiddle with things. dont get creative. if youre sick enough to need antibiotics, yourse sick enough to nicely stay home and rest, since your immune system is what kills most of the bugs in your bod anyway.

oh and taking 3 amox. doesnt mean you arent contageous. trust me, youre bloody contageous.

since people only ever remember 3 things i tell them, let me reiterate:

1- do what the damn lable says
2- stay home and sleep
3- youll be infectious for a while, so do everyone a favour and stay home. no need to infect another dozen people so that you can have a shitty "im sick but im determined to go out on the town" night

cheers

the doctor said i wont be contagious after 24 hours....

bad news bro..im guessing you only have 24 hours to live

amox is used as an adjuvant to your immune system. if your doctor is 100% that youre not going to be contageous in 24 hours, then he wouldnt be putting you on a 10 day course.

if youre on antibiotics, there are PLENTY of bugs in your body. certainly enough for you to be contageous. if anything, he was maybe talking about you being super contageous.

sublime, does it make sense to you that youre on a 10 day course of antibiotics if youre going to be well in 2?

the remainder of the time youre on the drugs, its to make sure the smallish mass of bugs in your body dont reinfect you

what are your symptoms by the way? anything to do with the respiratory system and ill bet $ you can infect someone quite easily

its strep throat...

and i assumed the extra days were to make sure all of the bugs are dead so they dont come back to infect you sinceu you are in a weakened state..
which is why people can be carriers of strep bacteria for like a month, and they dont get actual strep throat untill they are weakened/stressed/whatever

-not challenging your knowledge just doesnt make sense why the doc would say one thing so certain(and said i could even wrestle<which is a pretty close contact sport> by tomorrow night<i had my wrestling sweatshirt on> when i asked her wheni wont be contageous anymore)

well, theres contagious and theres contagious. if its in your system, then theres a chance that you can infect someone, pure and simple. it seems to me that your doc thinks that 48 hours worth of antibiotics is sufficient to lower your bacterial load to non contagious levels...although taht would depend on proximity imo. i wouldnt really go kissing anyone if i were you (sorry jerseyart. oh well.)

cheerios :)

gf and i both got sick on Monday..she couldn't even drink water, throat hurt so bad, couldn't even swallow.. took her to the dr and gave her a script for amoxicllin 875mg 20 pills for 10 days...after the 2nd pill she felt better, could eat food, drink liquid, not hurt...dr said the same thing after 24 hrs you can't infect anyone, but be sure to take the full course....

so me fearing the worse, took 2 of her pills for preventative measure..hopefully she won't notice it missing...
