Miss 24 K --->I just read that you are resting 7 days a week... sorry about that and I hope you feel better ASAP!!!!! Im curious about those adrenal glands. I didnt want to jack nikkita's thread so I thought I'd post about this. What are the symptoms and things to look for? Did this happen right after your comp? I had some health issues post comp. as well and Im curious. Like jencats said- this year has been plagued with sickness and injuries!!!! :worried:

From what I have read... when you put your body under much stress you wear down your ability to cope with it. So it's mandatory to try and not put yourself under insurmountable stress. Basically you feel super sluggish, your hormones are all screwed up, most people have nervous breakdowns, etc... The hormones in the fight or flight response are used so often that your body can't react to situations the way it is supposed too. Some times the damage can't be reversed after it is done. That's about all I think I recall from what I have read before. One of my posts about hormones talked about adrenal gland issues....

wow so its pretty darn serious! HOly crap!!! I think I may have been on the border of something like that in late April....I hope 24K is hanging in there....

Hey girl, well where to start, I was going to make a thread about this, but you got to it first Aries :)

Well the first signs actually happened about 6 weeks before the show, because of the problems with my digestive that I had, I had to work even harder than normal to get my bodyfat down (diet and training wise). I started becoming tired, I didn't want to do anything outside of what I had too (train twice a day), I started becoming irriated, and well it's hard to tell when you're in comp mode if it's overdoing it, or it it's the normal stress of comp mode.

1 sign to look for before you go overboard is heavy legs, if it feels like you're carry 2 cement blocks for legs just to go to the bathroom, you better take an extra rest day.

So anyway now for what happened after the show after the deplete, playing with the sodium, depleting the water and loading all those carbs, fats and SUGAR!

I was so sore, my muscles ached every last 1 of them, the pain was insane it felt like my hardest workout times 20, I couldn't move, it hurt to get up to go to the kitchen, and this lasted like 10 days, my muscles still hurt but not at bad as the first 10 days.

I am super tired all the time, it's actually a task and takes alot of energy to get dressed.

Sometimes I'll sleep 14 hours straight (at the beginning) only to wake exhausted and not rested at all, I feel and look like I've been up all night, heavy eyes. Or I have restless sleeps where I can't sleep more than an hour at a time, regardless of what I do to relax before bed, hot baths, lavendar oil, ZMA, sleepy time herbal teas, and this has been like this for the last week. And it's driving me crazy I just would like 1 good sleep, I feel like I forgot what good sleep is.

Any little thing that would never stress me before stresses me out like crazy, like not being able to take the vacuum out properly. And I can't control my stress at all, or calm down, like last night I was awake all night cause every little noise was scaring me, I was literally shaking and crying.

I don't know if anyone remembers me asking about low blood pressure not that long ago well that's another sign.

I have difficulty concentrating, my boyfriend the another day asked me to send an email for him, and he was telling what to write and I couldn't figure out how to spell important.

My hands and feet are always cold and I get "pins & needles" in them often.

My hormones are definiately out of wack, I lost my period like 3 months ago, and it still hasn't come back.

I would suggest to the ladies that train hard, I know some of your don't take very many week breaks, but every 3 months you should really have a week off.

So hopefully someone can learn something from the hell I'm living on a regular basis.

Oops I forgot 1 more thing, the insane cravings for fatty and sugary foods, it's so bad, I've fought myself many times and it's not like those regular cravings that we get, they're VERY intense, I have given into them a few times, but thankfully not too much, but I've gained 6 pounds from the show, I'm now 115lbs (remember I'm 5 ft tall ;) )

Oh another thing which isn't too good is that I have no tolerance at all for anyone, and I can't control my behaviour, like the another day I was so annoyed by my boyfriend's mom and just couldn't hide it, it was really bad and I had no reason at all to be like that with her, it was like her being around me was just annoying. I just don't want to be around anyone at all.

amenoreah is quite common among women atheletes with low body fat.

likely your cortisol is sky high from the over training.

things that help
taking days off
light exercise days
hydration
adrenal support (kelp, altyr, pottasium, magnesium)
dietary changes
DHEA- suppresses cortisol
glucorell and sesapure may help to mediate some of the binging as well as help control your blood sugar

Thank you marco :) , I actually haven't trained since my show May 6th, I just don't have the energy to be in there. I'm taking a bunch of herb formulas that are supposed to help, but well they aren't doing anything for me.

Sesapure is good to level blood sugars?

yes, its works via PPARalpha agonism. Glucorell works at it from the other "end" (receptor) by modulating PPARgamma.

have you been using thyroid meds or AAS? also a list of any other drugs or supplements would be helpful
(you can PM, if you prefer)

No I've never used AAS, and am not on any throid meds. I'll send you a pm with the list of supplements I take, thank you.

Thanks for the post 24 a lot of the symptoms are typical feelings of pre-comp prep no wonder you just pressed on. I hope you get well soon. :rose:

I would actually say Pre-comp + post-comp --- I've been telling you guys about the post-comp rebound and all the actions that everyone does on their first show(s) for quite a while - there's a depression aspect to it as well as a physical rebound, coupled w/ the extreme swings in first depletion then the post-show celebration. EVERYTHING IN MODERATION. The pre-comp, esp the last week can't really be helped much, but the post-comp is very controllable. Emotionally and physically.

I've been thru the complete shut down and it sucks. I was physically & emotionally shut down for 3 months in 2001. When your system is overtaxed it manifests itself in physical symptoms as well as emotionally. That's what sucks the most because now not only do you feel like shit, but it literally leaks out on to everyone around you.

Its definitely a learning experience and also helps you to learn what your body can handle and that in turn, helps you (forces you) to adjust your priorities sometimes.

Yeah we'll see what happens with me!!! This is all really good to know!

MY heart goes out to you 24K!!!! Feel better and take all the time you need.

Thank you everyone :rose:

Bunny I'm not feeling too good, just friggin tired but I can't sleep this is the thing that's starting to get to me, I maybe slept 3 hours last night, just tossed and turned all night, which is becoming an every night thing.

QT yes exactly it's hard to tell the difference because as competitiors we're always exhausted anyway at comp time.

Sassy you're so right but this isn't like the post-comp depression like I went through last year. I actually had another goal to reach which was a show that was 6 weeks away from the last 1, but obviously I won't be doing that right now, cause well my health is more important.

I don't feel fat or think I look fat this time, lol I like the way I look, I didn't get crazy out of control with the food. I made sure to control the post-comp :)

I'll be going to Miami for a vacation next week so hopefully relaxation in the sun and lying on the beauitful beaches half naked will help me relax.

Im sorry this shi* is happening to you!!! I know this might not be the best advice but when I was having trouble sleeping, I would drink a little bit of nyquil and pass right out. It helped A LOT!!!! Desperate situations call for desperate measures. I remember that those nyquil nights I would sleep so GOOD and so HARD!!!!!

**Get well soon***

Thank you Aries and Flor. :)

Aries, lol Nyquil does nothing for me, I've tried. Thanks though.
Valium ...

helps me ... very addictive, close watch , constant moderation..had to throw it out there..

Haulover Beach if you want to go full naked. Check out Nikki Beach if you want to party for 3 days straight. And definitely hang out at the pool at the Clevelander! Breakfast at the News Cafe!

As you can see I can't sleep again.

You read my mind - maybe a temporary prescription for 5mg of Ambien will help with the sleep issue......might be worth asking about, if it won't mess anything else up in ya....

Sometimes while your body is adjusting it is difficult to find sleep at night.
All relaxation means are welcome.

After my last year crash, my doctor recommended me to get as much as possible in sauna or steam room (of course normal time each session), because it is "heat theraphy" that can help your body relax and level your immune system. A hot tub works as well.

If it is possible for you to do that, go to the sauna and after the shower of course you'll feel so relaxed that you can take that opportunity to go straight to bed.

Going to Miami will be great! specially half nakid !

Yes overtraining really fucks your cortisol and adrenals. That sucks baby! I hope you feel better. Rest and relaxation will help. You totally deserve a full day spa you know!! Get your booty to the nicest salon and be treated like a pretty princess. Glad you are doing what it take to get better. Just so you know Biotics has a great adrenal support medicine you can get from either nutrtionist or a Natoropath. It works wonders. Good luck!

Yes Jens but I'm afraid it may throw something else off and we know my luck this year it probably will.

Thanks Nikkita I've been taking hot baths before bed with lavender oil in them, I should look into finding access to a hot tub.

Play what is Boiotics is that a brand name? A day spa sounds good to me ;) maybe I'll do that in Miami thanks hun.

Yeah Boitics is a pharmacutical brand name of very good supplements that are natural. I use their line for everything from glutamine to vitmans, and more.

Don't blame you for being wary of it - but maybe it's worth mentioning to your Dr.?? Especially if you're still having sleep issues.....

Otherwise how about Melatonin??

Otherwise how about Melatonin??

Melatonin is useless unless your body is deficient of melatonin. I know when your cortisol is increased you will a lot of times have insomnia. If you are seeing a naturopath I would suggest accupuncture. It helps tremendously. I had insomnia since I was 13. So for 13 years and have been on so many sleep aids and tranquilizers for it. Did the whole sleep clinic, melatonin, vhp, nothing would work. I think a combination of accupuncture and finding out what food allergies I had then eliminating the food allergies realy helped a lot. BUt if it is cortisol/adrenals that is another thing. Accupuncture does help for this a lot and if you have your adrenals treated you will notice a crazy amnt of energy from it like an hour later. I love that feeling!
