Anyone familiar with these? I just got the digital one and I HOPE I`m not using it right. 30% BODYFAT??????? I`ve never measured it before but I`m sure I`m using it wrong. To me it seems to be very easy to "pinch" less or more of your skin at any moment. Any thoughts/tips on measuring?

I was 250 now I`m 218. If thats right I must have been 40%. Damn no way. lol

Like I said before to all the people here, the BF scales you step on are VERY inaccurate because water retention and electrolyte imbalaces can disrupt the current flow; thus, giving you false readings.

Yes, I`ve read that somewhere. The product I`m talking about is a caliper (digital) It was like $40. and they sell them everywhere so I said wtf. but my question is really how to go about "pinching" the skin. I can pinch like 10 different sizes in one place! how the hell is that going to work. I don`t know if I`m being clear or what. let me know. Thanks

The caliper is not accurate too, the same water retention problem would be problematic in this case. 30% bf is VERY high, and it's not easy to reach that level. You should stop taking the caliper test and take a pool test (hydrolic), it's fairly expensive but you only do it once every 3mo.

I had the same problem with them, but the other direction. I'm female, and they were giving me a 5% reading during my cutting cycle. PLEASE! Not possible. I ordered a set of real calipers so I can rotate my readings. You should do three separate readings, but rotate the pinch areas of each reading. You can't do this with the digital calipers. Plus, I want to do a 5 point reading instead of a 3 point. Maybe it will be a little more accurate. I'm mainly using them as a weekly measurement for cutting, to see if I'm losing fat or muscle.

This caliper takes the 3 point #`s and calculates the bodyfat % for you. I think I`m getting better at it now. 17 - 19% bodyfat.Thats more like it. I`m sure it`s not perfect but it will do to see my RELATIVE performance.

I'm not a big fan of using only 3 skinfold measurements. I prefer to use 5-7, it's a lot more accurate, in my opinion. For men, I use chest, tricep, subscap, illiac, abdominals, front thigh and if i can get a rear thigh, then i use that. For women, I use tricep, subscap, illiac, abdominas and front thigh.
There are a bunch of formulas out there too so they all vary quite a bit. Does it give you an average % or does it give you a definite number?

I don`t really understand the question about average or definite #. It asks your age Male or female? then tells you to take the up meaning chest then mid meaning stomach then lo meaning thigh. Then you press enter after these 3 measurements and it gives you a number like 17%... It also holds all your data for future reference so you can monitor change and also tells you on a scale what your fitness level is.lol
It`s gonna have to do for now. I`m not going to be submersed any time soon.lol

some of the calipers that you can buy now don't give you an exact percentage, they give you a chart with the average or approximate %. Yours obviously is doing the figuring for you.
Don't you have trouble doing them yourself and trying to be relaxed at the same time?

At first it was hard to get it right but I`m getting used to it. As long as I keep doing it the SAME way EVERY TIME I should be alright. I`m not checking bodyfat for any contest or competition or anything like that. I just want to see if I`m improving FROM THE LAST TIME I CHECKED IT.
I think I`m about 18% after checking many times, I keep coming up with that. I don`t look that bad but I guess I`ll see how I look in the single digits %.

Why stress yourself guys and gals, just go for simple POOL fat testing (hydro), every 3 mo. and you'll be sure to know your exact bodyfat. Makes it easy and stressless.
