i'm not sure what forum this belongs to, but maybe this one is appropriate......

i have been using a scale to do BF readouts and its been pretty consistent the past 4 weeks as far as declining and what the mirror shows......however, i knew it was off b/c its showing 18% when i can see 2 abs and all my fat is adipose a little around my belly.....

well, i got one of those digi scales and made a few readings just now based on the instructions and video's i got from bb.com and its all over the place.....the first time it showed 6%, then i figured out not to clamp it hard all the way down b4 pressing the blue button.....finally i ended up getting a consistent reading around 12%, but why is there so much discrepancy between the scale and the caliper? anyone have any tips on measuring yourself and proper technique? i have a feeling i'm still not doing it juuuust right

Its very hard to get a reading with the caliper. It sucks and i think its just a waste of money. If you have your top two, i had like the same thing this past winter. I was about 15% with the top abs showing and the rest just a little. @ 8% now. Best thing to do is use two spots and stick with them. That way atleast you can see your progress. But don't measure any sooner than once a week tops.

The very best is Hydrostatic. If you really want or need to know your b/f go do that. Or else, stick to one type measuring device, and allways follow the same exact procedure everytime to guage your progress.

10-4....i hear ya

gonna go to the hydro after pct and cutting is complete to get a 'final' reading.....

yeah, the best i could do is do the 3 bodypart measurements twice on each side and average them......i've finally got the feel where all measurements are pretty close together.....i'm gonna hit the local gym up and see how they do it.....i'll post if i have an epiphany

THX!

Here are a few figures for you...

Using the Jackson-Pollock formula with the calipers you can expect a margin of error of +/- 3.5%. This is close to next best in comparison with hydrostatic weighing.

A second typical measure if by scale. This type, unfortunately, provides a margin of error of +/- 10%. If you do not have access to calipers, you may decide to use this version of measurement repeatedly for the sake of having a consistent number to keep track of.
