? About ME Squat/Deadlift Exercises

New member
I'm fairly new to Westside and was referred to it by my cousin who won't stop raving about it.For ME squat/dl day, he has me alternating three weeks of good mornings with one week of deadlifts.I was wondering what you guys thought of this, as I'd read that the westside guys rarely ever deadlift.Or did I mistakenly read this? What exercises have you guys found to be effective for ME sq/dl days?

I almost always do some sort of good morning, and usually arched backed good mornings. One of my biggest problems is maintaining my arch when I squat, and then losing it forward. AB Good Mornings help me with this more than anything. Sometimes I will front squat off of a low box which helps the start of my deadlift (did these as an experiment a couple of years ago and they help a little). Other ME exercises that work for me (note the emphasis on FOR ME) are low box manta ray squats (help me keep my torso more vertical - I have a short torso) and the squat/gm combination exercise.

I will rarely pull, usually sumo as an assistance exercise following dynamic squats to increase hip strength.

FWIW, I am a conventional deadlifter and I stick right on the floor. Always have and probably always will.

Westside Barbell Club rarely does a full deadlift. Personally I alternate every two weeks. I do a max box squat for two weeks, then good mornings for two weeks then some sort of a pull for two weeks. Either a deadlift or a rack pull.

I am a terrible deadlifter, and I am experimenting with doing a little more pulling than most Westsiders do. I think in Ohio they are doing about 50 percent good mornings, 30-40 percent squats, and only about 10 -20 percent pulls.

Hope this helps,

B.
