How many of you on here has experience with Retin-A ? I can order this through one of my research companies, and I was wondering how effective it is? I get extreme bacne about half way through my cycle and minocycline has no effect on it other than keeping it from getting way way out of control. I get some bad acne on my face as well.. Let me know :)

Had the same problem except mine was the opposite, acne got bad while "off" and actually better while on AAS. I used Minocycline for 2 months and it worked great but I noticed it started to come back after a while as I guess my body built up a tolerance to it. I am currently into my third month of Accutane at 40mg/Day and love it. I'll still get a zit now and then but from my understanding, the 3rd month is when you really start to see the results. May want to look into that. As for Retin-A, I have nevr used it. I used a topical cream my doc gave me a script for, called Neo-Medrol which works pretty well for minor cases of acne.

yeah accutane is the shit man.

1 month at 40mg/day
4 months at 80mg/day

cleared me the hell up - it was nice not to erupt post cycle.

Basically retin-A is topical accutane. If you use it right, it should work well. The main reason people don't think it works is because they don't give it enough time. Just like accutane, it takes about a month to start clearing up. In most cases, it will even get worse for the first few weeks with accutane or retin-A. I like topical cause you don't have to deal with internal sides, and it helps treat lines and wrinkles too. topical might take a couple weeks longer for some people. You have to use it right too. Too much will shred the fu$k out of your face. If you have any questions, let me know.

I only get acne on my shoulders and upper back when I'm on.......I've got a stash of minocycline, but just haven't used it yet.

Does it prevent acne or just "control" it?

If you get retin-A now and start using it mildly, even if you're clear, it will prevent breakouts for a long time. You can keep using it too. Improves overall skin tone and pore size. Just don't go overboard or it can fuck you up. Docs usually won't prescribe accutane for over 6 months cause it starts having nasty sides. Topical retin-A avoids this.

Do you guys no of a good Retin-A product that is strong enough for back acne. By the way what is Minocycline. Is that a antibiotic.

Retin-A is strong enough for back acne. Just remember that it takes around 6 weeks to start getting better, and it will probably get worse for the first month. Same would be for accutane though, although it might work a week or two quicker. Yes Minocycline is an antibiotic.

Retnin-A did absolutely nothing for me but make my shit worse...way worse. And yes, I used it for about 3 monthes. I take doxycline (antibiotic) and erithromyacin topical solution. The erithro is the shit, works right away, doesn't dry me out, and is extremely effective. If you're applying retnin to your face, neck, back, shoulders, and chest, it can get pretty expensive too.

Sorry to hear that Ryan...this does happen occasionally. It takes so long for some people that it's not even worth it. The fact that it got worse means it was doing it's job though. What it does is shut down sebacious glands. In order for retin-A to do this, it aggravates them to the point where they become worn out. Looks like you got caught in continual aggravation. That happened to one of my friends too, but it works good for most people.

retin-A doesnt even stand up to Accutane, nothing does. I've taken retin-a micro, tetracycline, minocycline then the last anti-biotic was cephalexin (keflex). Keflex is a strong anti-biotic, they'll give it to you get an abcess or infection.

Accutane was last, it cleared the shit up in no time and my acne didnt get worse initially. I had a nice red tint going while on accutane though.

my second cyle of accutane at 100 mg a day has done nothing but lower my white blood cell count................ and made my acne worse.im on my last month...my dr. is gonna trying injecting my zits with some stuff that had worked before

It quit working for me after my 3rd time too, and the sides were killing me. I'll never touch that shit again. My skin is clear as a baby's ass now though. Did a liver cleanse and got laser.

A lot of things can trigger acne outbreaks, so I'm not sure if anything is ever a permanent fix. It took a couple months of breakouts during the laser treatment (just like accutane), but all of a sudden, I just stopped breaking out...it was amazing! My skin cleared up from there, and even my mild scarring disappeared. I did the liver cleanse around that time too, which I'm sure helped the laser out. The more you can improve your overall health while receiving the treatment, the better chance you have of being able to maintain clear skin permanently. I get touch ups once a year just to be safe, and acne isn't even an issue with me anymore. Took me about 10 years before I could say that.
