A question for the guys....

This might not be something that most want to discuss - but I want to get a general overall opinion ...

My son - now six - is having some real issues with his "winkie". He was circumsized at birth but either it was done wrong or it started to grow back. In any event I have a big decision to make... either get him cut again or let him have an elphant trunk.

Who's cut and who's not? If you aren't is it hard to clean and have you gotten any infections? I just can't see him going through all that pain for nothing.

Thanks.

It's called soap. I don't see the problem. It's the kid's choice to make, so if it grows back, let him make it.

-Warik

I vote Elephant Trunk! I mean he is six and doesn't need to experience that kind of pain.

I hear its pain full as hell.

So I would at least consider that.

I would get a doc opinion --- wouldn't want the guy ending up losing an inch or two.

WODIN said:

I think I am being a bigger baby about this than he is. Then again, he doesn't really know what all is involved. When they are a baby it's snip snip snip - when they get older it is a little more complicated.

thanks for the comments so far.

Hey Shelby,

I have to ask.. Why did your baby doctor not notice this before?

My best pal has a son and she never knew that she was suppose to "take care" of his winkie when he was a baby. IE: You have to pull back the top after each diaper change and make sure that it's healing proper.I never knew that either...Thank God I had a little girl!

At any rate, she had him "re-done" at 5 year's old! Needless to say, HE WAS NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!

I'd say get him cut.....he's gonna get made fun of when he gets in high school and he's the only one not circumsized

I would say get him cut as well. Most men are cut and he is going to feel awkward about it later in life, probably at the most difficult time in his life to begin with. You wouldn't want something like this to keep him from playing sports or something because he won't shower with the guys.

At this point it will probably hurt as bad now as it will when he's a teenager. I say wait until he grows older and let him decide. I'm cut myself but I've heard that there's no truth to there being an issue with infections and hygeine in uncut men.

I'm uncut and was never made fun of. well, I was never made fun of for that.
I could see being made fun of if you had a pinapple sized growth coming off of it - that is abnormal, but being uncircumcized isn't abnormal.
and there are a lot of uncut guys out there.

let it grow and clean the thing. it isn't at all hard to clean unless your son has no arms/hands. then it is much harder to clean.

Uh, any man who would be "hurt" or "awkward" about other men making fun of his "winkie" isn't much of a man at all.

Who the hell showers in high school? When I was in HS the shower room was empty. Hell, they have curtains too. Just put on a towel and you're good to go. Everyone's making such a big fuss out of nothing.

Arguing that a kid won't be "normal" because he doesn't have half of his "winkie" chopped off. This is one for the books.

He was fine until about two years ago when it started to grow - but at a very slow rate ... it's only been in the past six months that it's completely grown back. I even called the doctors office asking "Are you sure he was cut?".

I too am uncut. I have never had a problem with infections, or anything of the sort. If he makes sure to use the soap he should be fine. And also at six, that is a lot of pain for a little man to have to endure.

Wiz

here in Norway its very unusull to get cut..most guys are uncut..and as far as i know infections arent a big issue..just wash properly..learn the kid it at a young age

I know your son is young and all but why don't you just sit down with him and talk to him about it.Just make it easy for him to understand give him A option his vote counts to after all it's his pecker

Get him cut now...... the pain will go away within days.....the emotional pain will take forever if he is ridiculed non stop in school. My bro in law had it done when he was 16 because of the remarks, jokes, teasing , etc.. he got. He said it was the best thing he ever haad done.

kinda like a chick that wants tits....then she gets some bolt ons and she is a happy camper.

extra skin there is good for sex.
and like I said before, never got made fun of for it.

later in life he will be much happier that he's got the extra skin and so will his girls :)

We aren't talking aboiut a man.......in high school i doubt very seriously that any of us were "men"

You didn't shower after gym class or basketball practice or football practice or baseball practice?

I'd leave it alone. He is 6 and it will be painful now. Both my sons are circumsized and I think about my now oldest son, who is 7.5, and if he had that happen to him at 6, I would leave it alone.

cut his left arm off instead.
then he'll get made fun of.
or feed him lots of sugar and get him good and fat - the fat dudes got made fun of.
other than that, everyone just said everyone else had a small dick and pissed in each other's shampoo bottles when others weren't looking.

god high school is dumbass.

Leave it be. You might tromitize the little guy. There is nothing wrong with being uncut. The stats show uncut guys have better sex.

I think you should not cut the poor kid because there is no medical reason to do it . Everyone is saying he will want to be like everyone else , well that is bullshit and I am sure you will teach him to have high self esteem so he wont have to worry about that at all.For you who say it wont hurt well that kid is 6 and if it doesn't heal properly he will have to go back to the doctor and HE WILL BE IN PAIN AND WHAT WILL YOU TELL HIM WHEN HE ASKS WHY YOU HAD IT DONE TO HIS WINKIE IN THE FORST PLACE. I wish my parents had not had my own winkie circumsized because I wish it could of been up to me especially since now we know it is not necessary. GIVE HIM A BREAK AND DO NOT DO IT!!!! By the way what does your husband or boyfriend have to say in this matter??

LMAO.....did you ever get a mouthful of hot water and when the dude was washing or rinsing his hair with his eyes shut.....spit the water on his leg and then when he opened his eyes be standing there with your dick in your hand and kinda shrug youre shoulders ROFLMAO

Anyway......all the dudes that I have showered with ...no I am not gay but I did play ball all through HS, College, and 8 yrs pro so I have seen probably as many dicks as May1010 has LOL I have probably seen only 7 - 10 guys that were uncut and out of those I think all but 2 or 3 were from the Dominican Republic.

america is one of the only countries that cares about it. the rest of the world (well, obviously other than religious reasons) doesn't give a shit.

as for the hot water fake piss... from what I recall of the football showers, they'd just actually piss on you. but the shampoo was more of a gym class thing.
also in football they'd piss on all the towels in the drying room.
nothing like showering, then towleing off with a piss covered towel and then realising and then getting to shower again.
fuckers. :)

When I was circumsized, the doc lef a little piece of skin that attached the shaft to the head, kinda hard to explain but it looked pretty brutal, I had it for the first 16 years of my life, then got it operated on and fixed. My mom didn't know what to do, I told her I wanted it fixed.

Get it fixed, mine wasn't that painful and your going to have to do it sometime.

As a gay man, I suggest that you leave him intact. Uncut is very exotic ...

(i know May was joking, but we don't need the unwanted attention)

After gym class I rinsed my hair and wet my upper body. Don't have to get naked for that. I never played any sports in high school, so no, I can't say I showered then either. I did, however, shower at home after little league.

touchy perhaps

Locker room: Cut, I think Americans are generally a snip country. Guys aren't supposed to be looking, but they do and will sneer and tease.

Girls: Some like it uncut, most, I hear are repulsed. Well, the saying goes, "Chicks dig scars."

Aesthetics: Easy one, cut just looks better. Hey, the ring looks cool too!

Daddy: I realize you are bi and a "daddy" may never be in the picture, but if there were one, I think it would be best to be like daddy. He'll wonder why he is different than his dad.

Media: Movies that show penis, typically show a cut penis (I'm not just talking porn here).

CUT is my opinion. He'll get over the trauma.

There is a "daddy" - he's known him for 5 1/2 of his six years of life. He is in the medical profession and is just as confused about this as me.

Seriously, unless you can't afford soap or something I would just leave the poor kid alone. If he wants to hack his manhood to pieces when he gets older, that's his choice - just as it should have been when he was 0 years old.

LOL. Yes, we can afford soap but he has a few allergies to laundry soap and laundry softner - which irritates the shit out of his 'manhood'. Thanks for the comment.

Quite a number of famous child care experts and doctors recommend against circumcision in their books. Dr. Dean Edell has expressed oposition against infant cirumcision for at least 15 years now. Sheila Kitzinger very emphatically recommends that parents leave their sons intact. Dr. Lendon Smith goes into detail explaining the foreskin’s purposes and giving all the reasons why circumcision should not be performed. Dr. Spock, in his most recent book, stated “I feel that there’s no solid medical evidence at this time to support routine circumcision.” He recommends “leaving the foreskin the way Nature meant it to be.” Penelope Leach also recommends against routine circumcision. Click here to see the list of their books.

March 1, 1999: After a two year investigation, the American Academy of Pediatrics concluded that the "potential medical benefits" of infant circumcision aren't significant enough and therefore, they do not recommend it as a routine procedure.
For more information, CLICK HERE

Routine Infant Circumcision [RIC] is not practiced in most medically advanced nations. Unlike American parents, few parents worldwide are actually faced with this choice. Their babies are automatically brought home intact. 82% of the world’s living men are intact. Few people are aware of the fact that circumcision was introduced to our culture in an attempt to eliminate masturbation.

Do not forfeit this decision out of respectful submission to your doctor. There are many benefits to keeping the foreskin intact. Typically, American doctors have limited knowledge in these areas. Many are totally unaware that the foreskin actually requires no special care.

People mistakenly believe the circumcised penis is cleaner. The myth that the penis with a foreskin is difficult to clean is exactly that -- a myth. Cleaning is so simple, it’s amazing that people fret so much about it. The big hoopla over hygiene is pure and unnecessary paranoia. See also: Smegma Beneficial Not Bad

Circumcision is painful. Although many suggest that anesthesia solves that problem, there are risks associated with anesthesia, including recent death. It isn't always effective and the needle itself is extremely painful.

Some medical and childbirth professionals recommend that expectant parents request permission from their hospital to observe a circumcision being performed. There are also videos available. As with any medical event, people should be made aware of what exactly is involved. This site and others describe the details of all the different circumcision methods.

Some children are surprised to learn that their penis has been cut and that a part of it has been discarded. Some have to live with circumcisions that had unsatisfactory results and the pursuit of foreskin restoration is not uncommon. You may read a written account and actually see the progress of one man's restoration process thru his photos over the course of several months. Foreskin Restoration Personal Journal

Circumcision does not guarantee a problem free penis. In fact, in many cases it is the very thing that initiates numerous problems. Careful cleaning must be performed. Infections of the raw wound are common.
Remaining Foreskin Reattaching (Adhesions)
Nathan, Intact, Born 10/13/97

Repeated infections can result in meatal stenosis (a narrowing of the urinary opening) which may require surgery. Meticulous care is needed in order to avoid the formation of an adhesion (scar tissue). This can result in a disfigurement and corrective surgery may be necessary. Some people complain that not enough skin was removed during their son’s circumcision. They fear he looks uncircumcised. Children are often subjected to circumcisions being ‘redone.’ Sometimes, a circumcision may only appear to be incomplete when actually it is not. There may be fat pads in the pubic area. “When the child grows and the fat pad disappears,” it will likely have the look of an ordinary circumcised penis. [Semel] Often too much tissue is removed, although this is not become obvious until later. This can cause painful erections and curvature of the penis. And finally, the circumcised penis is not immune to infections, sexually transmitted diseases or penile cancer.

Many parents are led to believe that circumcision is safer than leaving the penis in its natural form. Your Child’s Health by Barton Schmitt reports one out of every 500 circumcisions results in a serious complication. Many things can go wrong including hemorrhage, infections and damage to the penis. Much of the harm of circumcision does not become apparent until adulthood.

The assumption that circumcision is inevitable at some later time is a myth. This fear is unwarranted. In Taking Care of Your Child, the authors state “The overwhelming majority of uncircumcised boys never develop medical problems.” There is a less than 1% chance that circumcision will ever be medically necessary. If only one out of a hundred boys will require circumcision later, why then should the remaining 99 be automatically circumcised?

Even in the unlikely event it were necessary, which is worse -- adult or infant circumcision? Many are told or automatically assume it's easier and less complicated for an infant. Find out why this just isn't so.

Inappropriately, the foreskin is still blamed for countless problems. So with the best of intentions, parents continue to authorize the procedure totally unaware of the risks taken and loss involved. But these medical problems are usually caused by other means. Penile and cervical cancers, urinary tract infections and sexually transmitted diseases have nothing to do with the foreskin itself. The information as to what actually causes these conditions is readily available.

It appears that the major reason circumcision persists in this country is that many think all penises should look alike. The “like father, like son” argument is famous as is the locker room question.

Some insist it simply ‘looks better’ that way. There are women who claim to sexually prefer a circumcised penis. What they may not realize is that there are sexual advantages to remaining intact. Male sexuality and the anatomy of the foreskin is discussed frankly and graphically here. Read personal accounts from men and women who've experienced sex with and without.

"The fact that many circumcised men will ardently defend the continued practice ...and dismiss it as a trivial matter has its parallel among circumised women in Africa." Tim Hammond, NOHARMM
How is Female Circumcision Trivialized?

One thing is certain and those who are fully informed know that non-religious circumcision is not medically necessary. Knowing this, if a parent still chooses to circumcise their baby, they are doing it for so-called cosmetic reasons. Non religious RIC persists in America because it has become part of our culture. It has evolved into a purely cosmetic procedure. As an infant, he is forced to experience the parent’s preference. Upon maturity, the son may not share the same preference. He may later conclude that if it had been left up to him, he would have preferred to remain intact.

Parents who choose circumcision for cosmetic reasons do not realize that it cannot be accurately described as truely cosmetic. When it is presented so lightly, people naturally assume the effects of circumcision are minimal -- even insignificant. The word is extremely misleading. Cosmetic surgery is performed to improve physical appearance without affecting function. The foreskin, commonly believed to have no purpose, actually has numerous functions and all of them are eliminated when the foreskin is removed.

Circumcision is irreversible. Healthy, functioning tissue is amputated from a helpless baby. Many have taken the position that the procedure is a human rights violation. The question is whether parents have the right to consent to an unnecessary procedure that has lifelong consequences.

Today, many Jews are questioning circumcision and opting against it. Some Christians also believe circumcision is required. Read Religious Circumcision to address both Jewish and Christian circumcision.

“The physician today has a duty to discourage circumcision and to refuse to perform it.” Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, April 1996. An organization called Doctors Opposing Circumcision (D.O.C.) is committed to stopping RIC.

In all studies to date, the risks of circumcision have always exceeded any alleged benefits, a fact that often is not made clear to parents." Circumcision and the Code of Ethics, George C. Denniston, M.D., M.P.H., Humane Health Care International, Vol. 12, No. 2, April 1996.

"Study provides further evidence that circumcision for non-medical reasons may be a mistake." The Chronicle of Urology & Sexual Medicine, Routine Circumcision Questioned as Prepuce May Have Special Function.

Some insurance companies no longer provide coverage for routine infant circumcision and there are hospitals that refuse to perform it because there is no medical indication. “We feel medical procedures should be for medical reasons...” [Pantell] Some hospitals refuse to perform RICs without any medical indication.

During a two year review conducted by the Fetus & Newborn Committee of the Canadian Paediatric Society to determine whether routine circumcision of newborns should be recommended, it was concluded that "Circumcision of newborns should not be routinely performed." This official statement can be found in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, Mar 13, 1996, 154(6), 769-780.

Circumcision is barbaric child mutilation.
It was designed as a symbolic covenant between God and the Jews.
Are you Jewish? If yes then circumsize, otherwise forget it. It has no religous meaning for Gentiles and as earlier posts said, no medical reason either.
In Africa they "circumcise" women and everyone here comes unglued over abuse of these women,
but they don't seem to have a problem with hacking on their sons genitals...
I don't get it.
There's a lot of nerve endings in that skin that gets cut off.
They don't grow back. Why on earth would someone do that to their child?
My parents had me cut and I resent it!
How dare someone, even my parents, hack off perfectly healthy part of my body!

Wow, this has turned into a heated debate here.

1. We are not Jewish.
2. He was cut at birth and it was most likely done wrong or cut on the wrong angle so it grew back.
3. I worry about him getting infections since he already has had some allergic reactions to launrdy soap, certain fruits etc.
4. I wanted feedback from both cut and uncut guys - basically wanting to know - if you had the choice to do it again would you have made the same decision if it were left up to you.

Thanks for the feedback and comments so far. It looks like a uriologist is the only person who will do it - and for the insurance to pay for it he has to have three seperate infections and office visits for them to pay for it. Out of pocket it will run about 2 grand and there's a three month waiting period after the three office visits.

In MY part of the country (Louisiana, Texas) I'll say about 1/2 the boys are uncut from remembering what the locker room was like. No one ever got teased for for being uncut .. (you got teased for being small)

Shrebly

Just my take as someone who had to be cut at 23. I would never go back to the way I was before. I showered twice day every day and I still couldn't seem to avoid infections. I live in Australia where everyone my age (early 30's) is cut anyway - I did often feel the odd one out.

Back to the point. I can only speak from my own experience, but soap and water did nothing in my case. And all this stuff about losing sensitivity certainly doesn't apply to me. I feel more now than I ever did (and it's been 8 years). For me, it was the best money I ever spent.

I didnt' know a foreskin could grow back? It's not an easy decision to make and I'm not sure what my thinking would have been at 6. At 23 it was a bit of a hassle. Not screaming my head off in pain or anything near that, but I wasn't about to go horseriding soon afterwards.

One more thing - any surgery done in infancy leaves much better cosmetic results than surgery done in adulthood. The scar won't be nearly as noticebale if your son has the surgery now compared to the end result if he has to be circumcised as an adult. If this is a concern for you, let the doctors do it now.

All the best

galain:)

just snip it, it's no big deal. He'll thank you for it later. Why give him extra trouble in HS? I knew one kid who got teased about his "Ant eater" but nothing serious. I think it's something that most females would prefer anyway (just a guess based on how i've heard my female friends discussing uncircumsized penises). Its just some skin, snip it and he'll be fine in a few days.

I rememeber reading an article where a guy eventually was snipped in his early 20's for some reason. When he was asked to rate sex before and after he said uncut was a 10 and now cut is only a 6. I think you lose something like 30% sensation form being cut. Too bad I wasn't given the choice:(

Delinquent

It must be a very individual thing. See my post above. In fact - when my GP first suggested it, my big fear was the sensitivity issue because I did go and do some reading and that seemed to be a major point of discussion. In the end I had nothing to worry about and my only regret is not being done as a baby.

hmm, apparently their investigting whether circumcision can reduce the risk of catching STD's present in secretions (i.e. HIV etc)

but screw it....if it doesnt grow back to normal get it done properly, if it will then leave it. i can never remember one incedent where someone teased someone for being uncut

I'm cut and I was cut when I was about 15, 5 years ago and it didn't hurt at all, I think its great, I think he should do it.

If he does it then I hope it works out this time.

Good Luck

In the UK very few people get cut......unless they are Jewish. At the end of the day, if that skin didnt have a purpose, it woldnt be there at all.

I dont recall anybody ever getting an infection.....but maybe they kept it quiet. I certainly havent had one in my 28 years. I'd wager that he will never get 3 infections in his entire life.....and you could spend that money on much more useful things for him.
Needless to say, I'd leave it until your son is old enough to make up his own mind. To me it is a pointless op.

Everybody gets allergies....I have one to some brands of laundry soap too. This allergy doesnt mean he is going to become allergic to regular soap.

Shrebly, ultimately you are the child's mother and you will do whatever you feel is best for your son REGARDLESS of others' experiences. I know this may seem trivial to some, but I can feel for you.

I have four daughters. We did not know the gender before birth. Before my first was born I just automatically assumed that there was a GOOD reason why children in this country were routinely circumcized (My parents are Europian so neither my father nor brother are circumcized.). After having given birth to my first with a near FULL episiotomy and hemoroid that burst during childbirth requiring several stitches....the pain that I suffered those first few days was JUST AWFUL. Granted, the trauma of giving birth is different than the trauma of having your foreskin removed, but there is cutting and stitches just the same.....and I did NOT have to sit in a dirty diaper!

Because of this there was added tension with each pregnancy because I swore that there was NO WAY in HELL that I would allow any newborn son of mine to be mutilated in this fashion. I am not Jewish and neither is my husband.

I became educated and discovered THERE WAS NO SOUND MEDICAL REASON TO HAVE THIS PROCEDURE PERFORMED! IT WAS PURELY COSMETIC!

Females by design are highly prone to UTI (urinary tract infection)....but we don't go around altering their anatomy, do we? Yes, there are cultures in the world who DO subject there young daughters to HORRIBLE torture, but not for medical reasons - it has to do with deep-rooted cultural taboos and tradition. It is done to insure that a woman's virginity will remain intact until her wedding night. Many girls DIE and those that survive suffer UNIMAGINABLE pain during the process and FOR THE REST OF THIER LIVES. All I have to say about this is, THANK GOD I WAS BORN HERE!!!!

But I digress.

My husband was HELL-BENT that any son of his would look like him (he is cut) and I said, "OVER MY DEAD BODY!" Needless to say, we had girls so we did not end up in divorce court over that issue.

In closing, my sister (whose husband IS CUT) has two sons ages 4 and 1 NEITHER of which has had this done. They are both healthy and normal and have no problems.

Also, how many of my daughters' nude bodies resemble mine? Hello?! That is a just plain RIDICULOUS arguement.

I asked my older brother many times if chicks gave him a hard time or if he was teased in the locker room for his appearance. His reply? A very fast confident - HELL NO.

If he doesn't get made fun of for his peepee, it'll be his name or his family sitch or the way he walks, or that he is too tall or too short - whatever....do you get where I am going with this?

I believe that a 6 year old is not old enough to fully understand the consequences of such a proceedure. If you told him, "We are going to make your winkie prettier, but it is GOING TO HURT LIKE A MOFO!"...what do you think he would say? If you told him, "You will look like a large % of the other men in this country and you may/may not experience more/less sexual pleasure when you are older if you have this done now." what do you think he will say?

It will be up to the parents and no one else. Whatever you decide to do, realize that your son will love you no matter what because you did what you thought was best for him at the time. Hindsight is 20/20. Don't let anybody tell YOU what is best for YOUR son.

Be well! :)

Take that 2 grand and invest it in a mutual fund or roth ira and put it in his name and go on with your life. I wish I could have not been cut, but I cannot change the past but when I have my son I do not think I will have him cut and I asked my wife what she thought and she agrees that it is not necessary. Do what you want to but leave well enough alone! DO NO CUT HIM! It makes my gut cringe and thats not all when I think about it.TO the guy who said that a big deal is made about women in africa getting their clitoris cut out , but nobody says a thing on this subject I agree with him.WHY ALL THIS CUTTING? I bet most parents just do what the doctor says and that is that, no questions or anything, hell I bet most people did more research on a CAR they wanted to buy than on this! SCARY, VERY SCARY!!

Im not circumsized (since its stupid)... this is for jews and muslim at least here they're the only one who dare to pay for such shit. If any day there's another idiot like Hitler its gonna save me lotta trouble lol

UPDATE

Just to let everyone know - we finally got to the bottom of this "foreskin deal". It turns out that he did have a little bit of it grow back but over the past month or so it's been agitated by the fucking laundry detergent. We went out for a few hours and when we got hom his feet were covered and I mean COVERED with blisters and hives. That was in a two and a half hour time frame. It turns out that the detergent was irritating his wanker - causing the whole unit to get red, swollen and look infected - when it really wasn't.

Looks like he is going to stay the way he is - if he wants to get a trim when he's older then that is his choice.

Avoid Purex laundry tablets - they are way too strong and some of the surfactant remains in the clothing. I had to do about 5 hours of laundry and wasn't the happiest person ... the soap remained in the socks and when his feet started sweating it gave him a bad bad bad case of contact detmatitis.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions... at least now we all kow who's cut and who's not.

Thanks again!

Id leave the little nipper intact. Like some1 said above... the foreskin is there for a reason and should not just be cut off. Being from the UK and being cut ive never gotten over the fact that i feel im missing something that intact guys get. I feel annoyed even though it was for medical reasons that my manhood was butchered... You can't miss what you never really had (or at least for not very long) but Id rather be intact that not and poeple that do it just because its the norm is silly... why put your baby/child at this unneccesary risk... complications can occur, skin flaps, bends in the penis and fusion between the penis head and the cut skin tissue of care is not taken by the parents after the operation. Is it really worth the emotional problems not to mention the pain the poor little fella will experience...

My opinion is cutting is wrong unless for medical (i.e. tight foreskin or too long etc) or religous purposes.

Winky !

Hi Bro!

Im one of the NATURAL guys who has an elephant trunk. Its easy to clean, just pull back the skin and wash with good old soap.

R:rolleyes:

This is interesting !
In Germany boys do not get cut. It is unusual to do it.

My personal opinion is this: Why should boys be cut? Nature
has created us with it and there is a reason for it. So why
cut it? The infection question I do not understand. Don't we
wash ourselves every day?
Cutting men is a must in some religions, like cutting women
in others.
Both is ridiculous. What else in the name of god we have to
suffer?
