Quite a number of famous child care experts and doctors recommend against circumcision in their books. Dr. Dean Edell has expressed oposition against infant cirumcision for at least 15 years now. Sheila Kitzinger very emphatically recommends that parents leave their sons intact. Dr. Lendon Smith goes into detail explaining the foreskin’s purposes and giving all the reasons why circumcision should not be performed. Dr. Spock, in his most recent book, stated “I feel that there’s no solid medical evidence at this time to support routine circumcision.” He recommends “leaving the foreskin the way Nature meant it to be.” Penelope Leach also recommends against routine circumcision. March 1, 1999: After a two year investigation, the American Academy of Pediatrics concluded that the "potential medical benefits" of infant circumcision aren't significant enough and therefore, they do not recommend it as a routine procedure.

Your Child’s Health by Barton Schmitt reports one out of every 500 circumcisions results in a serious complication. Many things can go wrong including hemorrhage, infections and damage to the penis. Much of the harm of circumcision does not become apparent until adulthood.
The assumption that circumcision is inevitable at some later time is a myth. This fear is unwarranted. In Taking Care of Your Child, the authors state “The overwhelming majority of uncircumcised boys never develop medical problems.” There is a less than 1% chance that circumcision will ever be medically necessary. If only one out of a hundred boys will require circumcision later, why then should the remaining 99 be automatically circumcised?
Even in the unlikely event it were necessary, which is worse -- adult or infant circumcision? Many are told or automatically assume it's easier and less complicated for an infant. Find out why this just isn't so.
Inappropriately, the foreskin is still blamed for countless problems. So with the best of intentions, parents continue to authorize the procedure totally unaware of the risks taken and loss involved. But these medical problems are usually caused by other means. Penile and cervical cancers, urinary tract infections and sexually transmitted diseases have nothing to do with the foreskin itself. Circumcision is barbaric child mutilation.
It was designed as a symbolic covenant between God and the Jews.
Are you Jewish? If yes then circumsize, otherwise forget it. It has no religous meaning for Gentiles and as earlier posts said, no medical reason either.
In Africa they "circumcise" women and everyone here comes unglued over abuse of these women,
but they don't seem to have a problem with hacking on their sons genitals...

Wow, this has turned into a heated debate here.
1. We are not Jewish.
2. He was cut at birth and it was most likely done wrong or cut on the wrong angle so it grew back.
3. I worry about him getting infections since he already has had some allergic reactions to launrdy soap, certain fruits etc.
4. I wanted feedback from both cut and uncut guys - basically wanting to know - if you had the choice to do it again would you have made the same decision if it were left up to you.

It looks like a uriologist is the only person who will do it - and for the insurance to pay for it he has to have three seperate infections and office visits for them to pay for it. Out of pocket it will run about 2 grand and there's a three month waiting period after the three office visits.

Just my take as someone who had to be cut at 23. I would never go back to the way I was before. I showered twice day every day and I still couldn't seem to avoid infections. I live in Australia where everyone my age (early 30's) is cut anyway - I did often feel the odd one out.
Back to the point. I can only speak from my own experience, but soap and water did nothing in my case. And all this stuff about losing sensitivity certainly doesn't apply to me. I feel more now than I ever did (and it's been 8 years). For me, it was the best money I ever spent.
I didnt' know a foreskin could grow back? It's not an easy decision to make and I'm not sure what my thinking would have been at 6. At 23 it was a bit of a hassle. Not screaming my head off in pain or anything near that, but I wasn't about to go horseriding soon afterwards.
One more thing - any surgery done in infancy leaves much better cosmetic results than surgery done in adulthood. The scar won't be nearly as noticebale if your son has the surgery now compared to the end result if he has to be circumcised as an adult. If this is a concern for you, let the doctors do it now.

just snip it, it's no big deal. He'll thank you for it later. Why give him extra trouble in HS? I knew one kid who got teased about his "Ant eater" but nothing serious. I think it's something that most females would prefer anyway (just a guess based on how i've heard my female friends discussing uncircumsized penises). Its just some skin, snip it and he'll be fine in a few days.
