our economy is running off it. therefore, it won't stop.
Because we can do what we want. Everything aside i don't like the fact that people bash the USA. It's the world greatest superpower in human history. Given all the power at the USA's disposal it has remained very controlled and works hard at keeping the world stable. The US affords every person opportunity to succeed in life, does it's best to feed the worlds starving populations, respond to friends in need and bail out entire countries, it does not believe in racism, genicide etc.... It's always easy to nit-pick on the US because of it's prominence in the world, but IMO our country has behaved admirably. Study history and learn what the US has done to shape the world, before, during and after WW2. I would never in my life trust that kind of power to ANY other country other then the USA. Hey Hey Hey go USA!!!

well as someone who was against the war from it's very start, I think we're still there to make sure Iraq is on it's feet again, even if we're not wanted. From what I've read reconstruction is still has a ways to go, and the security forces have much more work to do. I seriously hope there isn't some sort of puppet regime set up in Iraq, because that shit won't work, and will make us look even worse.

I think what Gregory had to say was right on,, and as for answering the question, he did, we are there to keep the peace!!! We are there to help build a goverment that isn't USA haters...and to make it better for the people there.

Rest assured, if for some unknown reason we became bent on world domination instead of prosperity, the US could come close to melting down the entire globe.

Depends how you define power. but this is an unnecessary pissing contest. What it comes down to is that the USA of now is the greatest power in the world.

I believe that if the American forces where to withdraw from Iraq at this moment. A civil war would erupt. The country would be thrown into chaos and mayhem. That's not a good thing
Good post, and in my view, no this is not a good thing. Not because it's America, but because no country should be in such a position of power by itself. It upsets the balance of the world. But in it's own way, they do a better job being in this position than both the roman & british empire, since they are not set on global conqest.
Another interesting question is that both the roman & british empire has crumbled. When will this happen to the United States, and who do you think will take over? EU, China. The Scandinavian republic of Norway
There is no denying that USA has done alot of good in this position, when it has served their purpose, but there is also no denying that it also has fucked up big time, meddling in others affairs, overthrowing elected governments, etc.
But would any other country do much better in similar situations? I think not. Countries are made up by humans, and we make mistake. Humans with power make big mistakes, and power corrupt. The biggest "problem" with America, is not their dominant position, or their habit of "forcing" your culture on others. It's that this is done with so much arrogance and "righteousness". That people & countries that has a different way of living, needs to be rescued by the american dream, and that the whole world is jealous of you. This might not be the truth, but this is what your "selling". And this is perhaps one of the reasons why so much hatred and rage are directed against USA.

Yes but at the same time there is not a country in the world that does not have citizens willing to risk their lives and/or livelyhoods to come to the USA. The US empire will never end. It will augment itself to changing times. It's doing it already. Economic forces will dominate in the future. There are new markets coming into play, (china) So the us is exporting production and making trade agreements. Also the whole electronic monetary system/network was invented and setup by the USA, It's banking system is world dominant. The USA now simply intergrates countries with it's economic prowless and allows every nation that wants to prosper plenty of prosperity, this in itself prevents war from happening in the first place. Everybody is content.
Also the American culture is not shoved on anyone. It's just that we are so big and popular it rubs off everywhere. Remeber that the USA is not some faceless entity, we are a collection of a myriad or different cultures and races. It's a collective effort. We have the some of the worlds coolest melting pot cultures. We accept everyone and they all add to and make what the USA is today.

So the price is the SAME world wide. And since LOTS of other countries rely on their oil. The price goes up. It's the law of supply and demand.
