A Beautiful Mind

I know this movie was in 2001 but it is one of my favorite movies ever. For those who have not seen this movie it's such a spectacular story. It's about John Nash (founder of the Equilibrium Theory) and his battle with Schizophrenia and finding "an original idea." His theory has been used worldwide and he is still alive today, teaching at Princeton.

Looooveee it. :) Kind of sad, though.

i thought the little visual effects were pretty cheesy....would have been a better film without them

The reason they did that though was because in the mind of a person who has Schizophrenia, that's how things appear. The hallucinations..

I remember talking with a bunch of peeps who had schizophrenia about the movie, and they said it was portrayed very accurate during an episode.

I looked at John Nash's syllabus (online at Princeton) and holy shit - yeah, I cannot do math. lol.

gee really? that's why they did that? thanks for the heads up.

as I understand it schizophrenic hallucinations are primarily auditory (like hearing voices)

and accurate or not, still cheesy....would have been a great movie without the effects illustrating his thought processes.....it's hollywood dumbing down a movie and adding neato graphics, so that idiots with the attention span and intelligence of a gnat stay interested and are able to understand it.

Well I don't have attention span issues/lack of intelligence and I actually liked it. There was a reason they did that and no, it wasn't because of people who have ADHD or what not - They wanted people to see and attempt to understand a little about what he was going through. There are also a lot visual hallucinations... many see things as well as hear things which is what John Nash was experiencing as told, in the movie. Usually paranoid Schizophrenia has more of that.

Actually auditory hallucinations in my case are not very much present when I have psychotic breaks, it was ALL visual, and the patterns illustrated, seeing things as they line up that normal people wouldnt see.
That is nearly identical to what happened to me, I saw patterns in everything and figured stuff out. I don't know how else to portray that if I was to recreate what it was like. I just saw math and science in everything and patterns and numbers and everything made sense. I guess unless you experience it you'll never know what it's like, but if you do, a bit of advice, don't tell anyone about your amazing insight, trust me
