6'2" - 217lbs - bulk/cut ?

Hi all..
i'm 6'2" and 217 @ 14.1% BF (Tanita Scale).
What do y'all recommend I do cut or bulk?

I'm REALLY thinking cut here because i can't stand the fat anymore. it looks gross. But i don't wanna look 'skinny' once i'm all cut up. What do you guys suggest?

Just wondering if anyone has any pics of someone @ 205lbs - 10% BF round my height. Thanks!

You need size. At 217 your pretty light for 6'2" . I figure you should weigh about 240. This is a medium size and will provide a wider surface, which means less fat concentration. Also, more muscle means higher metabolism....

6'2" 240 is medium sized? On what planet exactly? Medium sized horse maybe.....

Look man, go by what you see in the mirror. If the fat is bothering you most, which it seems to be, cut up for a while and get rid of it. Then work on bulking up cleanly.

Gymtime I weigh 190 at 5'8" at around 10-12% and I'm not huge, just a little muscular. with 6 more inches I would have more than 50lbs on my frame. maybe this is just me, but why shoot for medicrity, if you are on this board then you should be serious into fitness, and he stated he wanted to bodybuild, I just think 240 at 14% is a decent goal and medium for a bodybuilder.

For a competetive bodybuilder, yes. But most people on this board, while serious about working out (some more than others), are not competetive bodybuilders. I've been lifting for eight years consistently, no significant layoff in that time. I'm 6'1" and stay around 220, 10-14% bf and I'm considered big. "Mediocrity" is in the eye of the beholder. IMO, someone 6'2", 240, 14% would be too big, too fat for me. Size comes easily to me. I've always concentrated on keeping the fat off, not letting myself get too big. Yet I'm still one of the bigger guys in my gym.

Bodybuilding is not about size for everyone. Judging by this guy's initial post, he's looking to lose some fat. He's already at 14%. He says he "can't stand the fat anymore." And you suggest he go put on another 23 lbs? 6'2" 217 is a little small IMO, but barely. My impression is that this guy is not intending to become a 240lb monster, he just wants to get in better shape.

I see what you are saying, I was thinking from my own point of view, I have an easy time putting on weight and keeping a relatively low bf%. I can never truly get ripped, and never really fat. When at that low body weight I see that many people have a hard time getting ripped cause there metabolism starts slowing down, hence they need to diet even more.... If he want to cut its all a matter of diet, and nutrtition.....

Exactly. I'm the same way, except for the fat part. If i put my mind to it, I could be sumo wrestling with John Goodman in no time!

This is a variation on the same question that gets asked over and over, how do I cut without losing muscle? And, How do I add size without fat? If I knew that, I'd be the richest man alive.

I'm 6'2" 245 with pretty low bf, and I am not "too big". Trust me, not even close. I've been a little bigger and still only focused on bulking. I think if you guys got up above 240, you'd think that you're not big enough. Despite my weenie genetics, I'm trying for a solid 275. I'd probably start seriously cutting then.

Anyway Eman, I've been at your weight(and height) and(in my opinion) you should continue to bulk for a while.

I would cut I mean summer is around corner and you don't want flab hanging over your shorts at the beach or lake do ya? I agree with gymtime lose the fat then bulk up cleanly at the end of the summer. Chicks dig flat or six pack stomachs don't let anybody fool you on that.

Man, I understand your perception. Most guys who constantly strive for size don't think they're real big, even at your size. It's completely an individual thing. But trust me my friend, by most standards, even by regular lifters' standards, you're a tank. I doubt this guy is looking to get to your size. I think he just wants to lose some fat right now.

I agree I would cut.

Also, I'm 6"3 only weight 180. (up from 164 w/less fat)

Depending on your frame your weight could be different from what people think is too small ect... I have a thin bone structure.

You also look bigger when your cut. People often over estimate what cut guys weigh because they simply look bigger because the muscle stands out.

Cutting is a much faster process than adding mass (which never ends).

I say cut then bulk.

Hey you can bulk in the middle of the summer no stopping you, I mean you will already ready be cut, Fat isn't going to pounce on. you will have more fat 2 weeks into a cutting cycle than 2 weeks into a bulking cycle.

217 pounds can be shaped a bunch of ways at 6'2". I am the same height and weigh 225 or so. Just hit the gym hard and the fat will come off and the muscle will grow. Dont worry about the scale cause you may even GAIN weight, but it will be quality...GET IT MAN

hey thanks for all the replies.

I'm not looking to become a huge mofo and start scarying the kids at the pool away =). I want to get that cut yet built 'fitness model look'. (MH-18, Men's Health covers). I don't compete and I don't want to be huge. Just a lean built mofo.

I think i'm going to go for a cut down for summer and in the fall start doing a very controlled bulk with minimal fat increase and then cut down to 220 @ 7-8% maybe by next year ( that's 15lbs of lean muscle that i gotta add after losing the fat).

anyway thx again for the help

BTW anybody got a pic of a dude @ 205 - 8% round 6'2 ?

I'm 6'2" 212 lbs and 7.2% bf in these pictures. Lately I've been bulking and am at 218 lbs and about 10.9% bf. I plan on doing a modest Fina cycle, which I hope will add at least 10 lbs bodyweight and drop 3% bf. Also, I've upped my cardio (from nothing). So I guess you could say I'm going to be bulking and cutting at the same time.

This thread sparked my interest being that im exactly 6' 2". Trust me when I say this, keep bulking. It will pay off, even when pro bb are bulking they put on fat, it s just nature. If i were you id bulk up to 225 and cut here about May. Currently im 6'2" 230 14.5%bf looking to add 5lbs more before May then cut for summer. Just a thought?
