5x5 Questions

Hey guys. I'm into my first week using the 5x5 linear routine. Unfortunately there are 2 problems. My lifts arent big, and i don't have a dime to my name. The problem with this, especially on the shoulder press (max 105 right now) and lighter sets with other exercises, is that the jumps are too small for the weights in the gym. Yes, i know about the chains and microplates and all that. The problem is, even if it cost me 5 bucks, thats 5 bucks too much right now. Money doesnt come easy for me. Question is, what do i do. For example, on the shoulder press, my max set for weeks 1-9 goes:
97, 100, 102, 105, 108, 110, 113, 116, 119. The only way to work this properly is :
95, 100, 105, 105, 110, 110, 115, 115, 120.
Any advice is welcome. And maybe theres another option for 2 bucks lol.

I had that same problem too. My max on militarys were 115, so for week 4 it was 115, week 3 was 110, wee 2 was 105, wee 1 was 100. I just kept ramping up by 5's until it stalled out. I lasted for 8/9 weeks on my first run. It's probably not the best, but you'll have to work with what you have. There's also no point in using the same exact weight on your PR weeks.

Just out of curiosity, why's it that hard to get 3 more dollars?

If you're sthat straped for cash you could always get some duct tape and rocks (or something else you could weigh) and tape them to the plates...

LOL, but really that's so true. Stick a roll of pennies or two inside a sock and tie it on (Oh, wait, that would cost a buck ;) ) find 2 of anything that weigh the same and less than 2.5 lbs. and find a way to get it on the bar

Yeah i found some chains lying around the house. they only weigh 1.5 pounds combined, but its a start. i think the only problem will be shoulder press because the other weights are all between 155-205. i'm not worried about warmup sets. to me the bigger deal is on the PR's, and ill have to find a way to change it every week without doing too much.

If you can't afford 5 bucks then your country and it's legal system has failed you, i suggest you are within your rights to commit armed robbery and get your peice of the pie.

lol, although it's more in the realm of the social welfare than legal system. Unless, of course, he's broke because his money was taken unfairly in a lawsuit or divorce settlement. ;)

Surely you can find ways to save a few dollars a week to do the chains thing on madcow's site within a week or two...
