How long to they recommend to rest between sets on this program.....and what body parts do they recommend to do together..
right now I've been doing it for 2 weeks, going on 3rd like this..

Monday: Quads/ Calves/ Abs
Tuesday: Chest/ Biceps
Wednesday: Shoulders/Abs/Calves
Thursday: Hams/Triceps
Friday: Off
Saturday: Back/Abs
Sunday: Off

Im planning a figure comp in april, I started dieting 3 weeks ago, only 1 hour of cardio a week (a aerobics class I have to teach), add in more cardio 8-12 weeks out. I love this method of training so far, seeing great results and strength gains, also feel awesome after my workouts, like theirs no way i could have done another set, great feeling......

For me personally, I like to only rest 30 sec to 1.5min. even with 5x5. I love the feeling of goin right back at it and getting it done quicker.

For me it depends on the muscle group and how far into the program I am (ie, as weights go up, I tend to increase the rest slightly. For Chest / Back / Legs its about 3 / 4 mins between sets, Shoulders / Arms, maybe 2 or 3. Worth baring in mind that my goal was strength increase here.

Split:

Mon - Legs
Tues - Chest, abs (plus longer cardio session)
Wed - off
Thurs - Shoulders, Back
Fri - Bi's, Tri's

With me, i rest as long as i need to in between the 5x5 sets, the whole point is to get those sets... i usualy give it 3 minutes or so. Now on the 8 rep ones, i usualy wait around 1- 2 minutes.

here is my current split 5x5 routine

Monday - Hams, Lower back, Chest
Tueday - Upperback and abs
Wed- off
Thursday - Quads, Shoulders, Cavles
Friday - Tris, Bis, and abs
Sat and Sun - off

My track season starts next week so 4x a week of lifting is enough for me. Each workout takes no longer than an hour.

BTW, I rest 60 seconds between sets except with squats and deadlifts where I rest 90-120 seconds

Could this programme be done in a 3 day split?
ie Monday, Wednesday, Friday?

It can be done on any split yes.

As for rest periods, the 5x5 doesn't dictate anything specific if I remember correctly.

Personally, I take a little more time between sets for the compound stuff, then a little less time for the isolation.
