I should have added, the exiled Spartan King counciled Xerxes when he asked about Spartan invincibilty,

"The same goes for the Spartans. One-against-one, they are as good as anyone in the world. But when they fight in a body, they are the best of all. For though they are free men, they are not entirely free. They accept Law as their master. And they respect this master more than your subjects respect you. Whatever he commands, they do. And his command never changes: It forbids them to flee in battle, whatever the number of their foes. He requires them to stand firm -- to conquer or die. O king, if I seem to speak foolishly, I am content from this time forward to remain silent. I only spoke now because you commanded me to. I do hope that everything turns out according to your wishes." — Herodotos vii (trans. G. Rawlinson)

Xerxes asked if a single Spartan could kill ten of his men.....

You need to shrink too...the average Spartan male was about 5'5" and no more than 145 pounds...that's why they had plumed helms..to look taller.. :worried:

Not for me.
I was skinny for the first 26 years of my life, and I'm not going back. Not even for great stamina.

Yeah, that was the look they were going for.

Lean muscle makes the man look bigger.
Being soft and smooth will make you look smaller

It's all illusion... But yes , I think back then people were generally shorter and thinner
They were also 1000X more physically active

It's funny when the average person sees a lean physique, they assume they're huge. I doubt any of teh "Spartans" was over 175# and I'm being generous.

The Spartans also intentionally "starved" their children which inhibited physical development.

But I think that was similar to the pit bull training. I believe that's a psychological issue (lack of food and water) to make you more aggressive
I agree, that was the intent....put them in survival mode.
