Before SRV (and his trailer trash mailbox letters), aspiring young blues guitarists would listen to BB King, Albert King, Freddie King, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker, etc... for inspiration. So we get a guy in a hat with mailbox letters on his guitar, and after him no one listens to anything but SRV and Hendrix.
There was nothing wrong with SRV, he was an okay player, he just was never deserving of the massive adulation that he received. So it's not his fault, really, it's the fans'. I just react against him because his material is all the same, and because he's hugely overrated. He never really changed or grew, just the same Albert + Jimi schtick over and over.
