13 year old muscle head????

my little bro who is 13 goin on 14 wants to come to the gym with me and start workin out hes small very skinny i tell him that it might not be a good idea for him to start lifting this young ...or maybe im wrong tell me what u guys think
 
You are dead wrong. It would be great for him to start lifting at 13. I know a lot of guys who did. I've never met a single one who had any problems because of it.
 
It doesn't affect the growth plates does it? There's some speculation going around that weight lifting while young stunts your growth.
 
yeah i only planned on ptraining him on the compound movements .......nothing crazy if he did my workout he might die
but i appreciate the input fellas i wanted to make sure before i took him to the gym

Remember that you are training him for HIS first time. This will be a momentus occasion. Do it right brother and the iron will be fortified in him. :)
 
Just remember to take it easy on him for a while. Also don't let him get concerned with how much you lift so he won't get impatient.

Oh man... I can't imagine where I would be with basketball if I knew what I was doing when I lifted at 14
 
I don't think the testosterone levels are high enough to make huge gains at that age though, he'll probably be starting puberty. But heh it's good fun in the end.
 
i started puberty in 5th grade at the age of 10, oh how i wish i woulda started lifting in 7th grade.
 
My mom baught me a cement weight set from Sears when i was in 6th grade for my birthday. I think i was 12. One of the best gifts i have ever had.

Example: Arnold... He had the genetics sure.. but he also started at 14!
 
so glad i started at 11. im only 15 now and i'll be at what most consider to be their max potential at my height as soon as i'm done cutting

Your gonna have to get some pic's when your done cutting bro.. I gotta see it. You were already massive when you first joined elite.
 
Make sure he enjoy's himself. :)

Be safe, but lifting should always be fun. If I didn't enjoy this, I wouldn't be lifting myself.

bad wrong.............. they are threw he roof....... think back to that age, all those new changes that are constantly (popping up)....... he will grow like a weed. that is the one of the main regrets of all people with training, wishing they had started that early.

He actually started much earlier. Formal weight lifting began at 14-15... but his dad had him training when he was a kid. It was a family tradition that you do 500 push ups and 500 sit ups before you leave the house.
 
Good idea! make him build an impressive squat / deadlift / bench / push presses / powercleans / chins / bentrows by the age of 16-17. He can then start to apply his raw power to additional pumping isolation exercises and become a real freak.

Why oh why did i squander my youth drinking beer and chasing women. I could have been a colossus but instead I'm just an average punk.

My best friend started working out in 7:th grade and i will never be as big as he is.
 
I remember reading something a while ago saying that the 'weightlifting at a young age can stunt your growth' thing is a myth.
