He was more of a rolly polly, as round as tall kinda guy, sorta like Mike Brown, the young bencher phenom, met him too...

But strong as hell no doubt.

He missed 850 or so at the arnold. Seemed like he had a great personality, he was dancing around on stage waiting for them to load the bar.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Yeah, when I ran into him I got recruited to help put his final attempt shirt on, ha ha!!!

He was all sweating his ass off, there were three of us and two of the guys already working on him had those cotton work gloves with the rubber on the palm part trying to get some traction on his sweaty ass...

He does have the world record at 308 with a 942.5 lb press, don't know if single or double ply but he sure as hell is strong and seems to be fairly natural...

Just in my humble opinion, I've seen some jacked dudes and she-dudes in my day and he wasn't all jacked and bloated like others...

Your right, I should have done the pose standing up but it was taken in the attic and the ceilings are low.

Like my patriotic trunks?

At the 2005 olympia:

All told, this Olympia had more than its share of trauma, drama and controversy. From the opening segment of the night show, when powerlifter Gene Rychalik took the stage to attempt to break his all-time bench press record and press 1,015 pounds, only to end up broken himself under the bar as his try went awry, it was a crazy night.

Uhhg.
Weider and Muscletech are going to try and turn powerilfting into a WWE style cash cow for themselves.

It was Rychlak for Muscletech versus some bodybuilder type guy for Weider, and they were playing it out as if this guy for weider was one of the strongest powerlifters around.
I was reading it somewhere and it made me sick.

Weider has been jealous for a LONG time about the WPO at the Arnold and the crowd it draws. I heard that he was thinking of throwing his hat in the ring...
Nothing muscletech is connected with is ever good, and muscletech and weider together may be one of the signs of the apocalypse!

I'm wondering what you guys think about the possibility of a 1000 pound bench. Can the tendons and ligaments support it? Are the muscles used big enough.. as with squats? Anyone know of any unofficial attempts that were even close?

Yeah muscle and fitness magazine recently had a guy in there that broke the record and it was 1008 lbs i think he did 5 lbs more than the previous guy

If you can bench 1000lbs grats.

But seriously, whats the use? Your arms will NOT be able to move naturally, I men scratching your back is out of the question...or picking out a weggie...hell your bicep would prolly break your jaw if you tried to pick your nose. :P

and these are "problems" for WHAT reason exactly? :P

A friend of mine benches over 800. I want to say its about 820-825, but I cant remember. Havent seen the dude in awhile since I moved!

I am in no way trying to discredit these huge lifts they are amazing feats of strength. However i sometimes wonder about the range of motion on these lifts. When powerlifters over 300lbs bench its like the bar moves 6 inches at most. Thats why i like to watch smaller powerlifters, well that and im a lower weight class lifter might bias me.

My friends a tank.. If I remember, he weighed around 370-375! Ive seen him rep out 500, like i would 225. Just a strong dude..

Shortening the range of motion is part of the game on all big lifts.I trained with a guy who was 5'5" at 230lbs and grabbed the bar as wide as he could. He did a solid no bounce bench every time and worked out with 500lbs on the bench.Regardless of the range of motion these guys move alot of weight.

I agree with you 100 percent. Its just when your chest is so big that its only a 4-6 inch drop to touch it seems like its somewhat of and advantage compared to a smaller person who must drop 3-4x this length to hit chest. Again i am in no way tryin to take from the credit they deserve, witnissing that much weight being moved is amazing, but in my opinion a smaller person moving a huge anount of weight through a longer range of motion is greater.
