1) I've shot missiles, dropped bombs and been shot at in anger.
2) I was an all-state goalie in hockey. Played for a few years in college, but ended up getting cut from the team. Kept playing for years... now I live in the south and hockey rinks are far and few between.
3) 4 Years ago, I came close to being killed in a car accident. Wife and kids were also in the car. They came out without a scratch. Reality checks happen fast.
4) In the mid 1990's I used to run a free website that had a bunch of odd flying contraptions on it. It was written up in magazines nationally and internationally.
5) I live and work in a world of secrets. I'm chocked to the gill with clearances. I usually can't tell my wife what I'm doing. That doesn't go over well.
6) I write software on the side. One of the more interesting projects was a rush job. In 7 days, I - and 2 others - wrote code to control a micro-UAV that was used in Iraqi Freedom. Finished it up and shipped it to the desert just prior to D-Day. They were calling my house via sat-phone to clear up some issues
7) I will give up a stellar career in the AF because I place my family life above my job.
8) I'm a bonfide geek. I'm building a robot that has a onboard computer, a couple of micro-controllers and a host of other stuff. My kids love it.

What I was hoping would come out of this (and it did) is that we develop images of everybody else's life being better than our own, but that isn't necessarily the case. Most of us have skeletons in our closet and we aren't as perfect as we might appear on a computer screen. Our lives might not be as bad as they seem at times. In no particular order:
1) I'm 28 and have never had a long term relaionship. I honestly think theres something wrong with me.
2) I have no idea what I want to do with my life - my goals change on a monthly basis.
3) I hate socializing, but for some reason people love me.
4) I'm dating an adult film actress, and its harder to deal with than i thought. I feel like a scumbag when I lie to my friends/family about her - I shouldn't have to do that, right?
5) I'm a great cook, but I hardly ever do it.
6) Told my dad I loved him for the first time in my life last week. He never said it back.
7) I hate bright light, being cold, and being wet. Like a gremlin.
9) I wish I could be religious, and I genuinely admire people who follow that path.
10) I've never gotten along with authority figures, and have been fired from pretty much every job I've ever had.

2. Move on my own at 17 held down 2 jobs and completed school all after I was told I was gonna be a bum. Bwahahah.. jokes on her
3. Raised one of my younger siblings till she was 18.. she calls me mom at time.. boy the looks we get
4. Can never forget the fact that my mom didn't attend my graduation for a very petty reason.
5. X-smoker of over 5 years now.
6. Had a rough upbringing surronded by drugs and alochol and had to stop several sucided attempts at a very young age.
7. Would give my life for a few very close people that I love without hesitation.
8. A complete workaholic.. I have to stop myself sometimes..

I have a pretty good relationship with my mother just when she starts to ask about who I am dating I have to shut her down... It is on a need to know bases only... My parents were the same way, but I didn't take it like you did. They never came to anything I did. It was always the same. "I'll be there if you want, but I personally don't want to go."
I was like...alright, no problem. You gotta do what you gotta do.
I have never heard the words "I love you. I wish you the best. You're a good kid. etc" but I figured that we both knew and thus it didn't need to be said.

wow your story is almost exact to mine.. Except I didn't have to raise a sister thank god I was the youngest.. But was put in a foster home at 14 and then I moved out on my own when I was 17. I haven't spoken to my parents for over 5 years.. And believe me I am better for it... In the end people like you and me are stronger and can deal with more shit so we are better off in the end

yes.. I agree.. Sometimes I don't know weither to cry tears of joy or sadness... Always ends up being joy... What I was subjected to in my childhood has molded me into what I am today. I've been fortunate enough to observe the mistakes made around me and use them to my advantage... learn from them. Sadly, a few siblings weren't so fortunate. I also learned that no matter how much you want to make someones life better for them.. no matter how much you GIVE GIVE GIVE.. they will continue on the path they chose to continue on. I've been burned more times than I care to admit... but i'd do it all over again if it meant changing a life.
11. overdosed at age 3 had to have my stomach pumped out... came within minutes of dying
12. Brown belt in American Shotokan.. have been closed to knocked out once(yep saw stars) but never submited
13. Really easy to get along with and have a real soft side.. but also can be a real bitch if you strike me wrong.
14. Not scared of anything.. which in somecases can be bad.

#26 I got my Driver's license in my low/mid thirties.
#27 I can't frive when it gets dark because of my vision. If I'm out, I have to keep looking at the time and start heading home at a certain hour. SUCKS!

I graduated HS when I was 16. Now I'm unemployed and proud of it.

2. I have superlow self esteem. I pretend to be happy with myself because its been my way ever since i can remember.
3. I am super needy emotionally. I love to be loved and hugged and kissed.
4. I hate the thought of having a child myself one day - I would rather adopt a child between the ages of 4 and older than have one physically of my own.
5. I have social anxiety to where i leave a room and shake something feirce unless i have a focus point.
6. I have been taken advantage of by 3 men in my family and a few outside- I felt like it was my fault every single time so i push it out of mind until i start remembering again.
7. I love my family even the ones who hurt me.
8. I tend to be gullible and think the better of people even if the have a past of being negative. I try to see the better anyways. I always want to be liked by everyone.
9. When i get angry - i have horrible rage problems and lash out maniacly. I have even attempted to kill my exhusband too many times to even remember. i came within a inch of stabbing him with the largest knife i could find and had him cornered and turned it a little and stuck it in the wall next to him he freaked and didnt come home for a while.
10. I have broken one of my dogs legs and never took it to the vet and I have killed a puppy before because I was on drugs and thought it wasnt eating and I hurt it so bad that it was having seizures and took it to have it put down- i never told anyone.
11. I have a problem with self mutilation - I havent hurt myself in a year.
12. I always find someone else i want to be like and never like myself.
13. I am sparatically able to stick up for myself even when i am getting screwed over.

11. I used to steal everything I could, especially from food stores. It started with stealing candy from 7-11 type stores...this went on until like age 15 or so; I was pushing shopping carts full of food (lot of cookies, sodas, cold cuts, bread etc) out of supermarkets and loading into cars. If it wasn’t nailed down, I stole it. If it was, I stole it. I stole 16 cases of beer on the job at 7-Eleven one summer in high school.
12. I have attended public, private, and boarding schools.
13. I can eat chicken wings like you would not believe. I don’t eat them often, but when I do, I go big.
14. I can understand the lyrics to any song - rap, Bob Dylan, whatever it is, I hear the lyric crystal clearly. I also understand people no matter how thick their accent on the very first try. On a related note, I can hear every word in multiple conversations simultaneously.
15. I keep no record of personal finances. I have no idea what I spend except at the instant I spend it.
16. I once lost control of a car going 110 MPH, very drunk, on I-10 in Louisiana. I was alone; it was after a fight with my then-g/f.
17. I once lived with two strippers. I had sex with all of their friends, all the time, for about six weeks. I thought it would always be this way. It was not. My longest “dry spell” since my first sexual encounter is 15 months.
18. I have a mentor. I owe him everything.
19. I have amazing mathematical ability. Like Good Will Hunting. I just get the stuff. Visual artistic pursuits, such as drawing, sculpture, etc. simply escape me.

Well then double thanks for sharing. Sometimes telling things to people you haven't ever met before is more cathartic than confiding in your best friend. It means you are better able to open up about it and getting closer to accepting it. Or at least that's what I think.

1. I had consenual sexual relations with someone in my immediate family.
2. I beat some guy so completely bad with my fists 20 years ago that he's a complete vegetable. (I live with that every day of my life).
3. I had sex with two of my girlfriend's mothers before I was 25
4. I did something so horrible, that if I were to ever tell, I'd likely be doing big time, real time prison.
5. I can pick damn near any lock that's not a Medico, or better in under 2 minutes.
6. I still play revenge fantasies in my head like movie reels.
7. I like anything that's essentially "forbidden knowledge"
8. I spent my youth reading encyclopedias and waltzed through university without cracking a book.
9. I saw the error of my ways 15 years ago and am now a good person and will always be (I hope). I regret so many things in my life it pains me.
