1.5 mile military run

did you have any base training of say runs that were 2-5 miles long on the days you werent doing intervals?

I did not have a good aerobic base. Of course, it would be much much better to have a solid aerobic base first. But if you are short of time and want to improve fast, interval training can be as good as far as the 1.5 is concerned, but the gains will not stay as long. But do not do intervals for more than twice a week, highly taxing to the CNS.

thanks how many 800m intervals did you do in each workout?
did you do any 400 m intervals oor just 800m?

how much time do you have before your tested. this may help with the some types of programs.
I would suggest running for a period of time and not distance. 1st couple of weeks run for 20min a day. (not on the track) each day try and go a little further then the day before. once those couple of weeks are up change the routine.
Sunday increase the time to 30 minutes
monday go back to 20 minutes
Tuesday run intervals or hills if hills run for 20 minutes.
Thursday 20 minutes
Friday track work 800 meters here is were you put Aerowana routine in place
Saturday off.
Sunday 30 minutes start program over.

Most police and military run requirements are to complete the test within 12-14 minutes. If you can break the 10 min barrier you should be in the 90 precentile of the runnning program for that department.

If you can only run 5 day a week take out one of the easy days Monday or Thursday to recover fully.

60 sec a lap put you in the 4 minute mile (olympic speed)
90 sec is 6 min mile or 9 miuntes for 1.5 miles
105 sec is a 7 min mile 10 minutes for 1.5 miles

test yourself on the track once or twice with the 1.5 mile distance to get a feel of were you are and bring a stop watch (don't follow anyone set your own tempo)
stick with it and you should do fine.

good luck

First off get the best shoes ya can for the purpose of just running!!

For me anyways, breathing was everything. Time your breathing to your pace and make sure your pace is one that you can keep to reach your desired time. Then just Run!!

When in the military I placed at the very top in two PRT tests. Ran the 1.5 in 8.10 in Florida and then 8 min flat in California.

Even after my days were done and had time to myself I was running 3-5 miles a night. Even when I didn't wanna run the guys in my company got my arse out there to run and work-out. It was an ego thing having our comapny win the PRT testing, and felt damn good!!
