    Another scary post...

I posted a thread the other day exemplifying how little people know about nutrition (I read another message board that only focuses on weight loss). It is really rare to get two gems this good posted to the board in one week, but it happened, & I had to share.....here's a post from today: "I...

Is this normal? And what to do about it...

I have noticed that since I started lifting, my lower body has made gains and I am able to lift more at a far more rapid rate than my upper body. Not only does my upper body seem to be lagging behind in general (i.e. it was much weaker to begin with), the gains I make are tiny. I give the same...

    bodybuilders, transsexuals and the law

mikeraz, please do not compare transsexuals to fat people, old people, or men who cannot get steroids. It is a completely different concept/problem. If your biggest problem is understanding that, then the best suggestion that I can give you is to read some of the literature out there regarding...

    bodybuilders, transsexuals and the law

mikeraz, if you would make some sense, I might be willing to have a discussion with you; but your friend with BDD has nothing to do with this conversation about transsexuals. I'm sorry that he doesn't seem to be getting the help that he needs, but again, I'm not sure how to make sense of your...

    Misconceptions about weight loss

I know I must sound like a broken record about this stuff :D , but it never ceases to amaze me. I read another message board that only deals with weight loss--most people there have 100+ pounds to lose. They all follow different plans, some pretty good, a few pretty bad. A few have had...

Ahem. That's Ms. PhD, Mikeraz. And thanks for letting us all know where you stand, as well as showing off your intelligence level.

    bodybuilders, transsexuals and the law

Additionally, please realize that people with GID do not simply walk into a physician's office and walk out with a script for hormones. Generally speaking, the "treatment" for GID involves at minimum a year of intensive therapy, a year of living as the opposite sex full-time, a year of hormone...

    bodybuilders, transsexuals and the law

OK; for starters, my qualifications: PhD in clinical psychology. Emphasis in health psychology. Generally speaking, there are two types of diagnoses involving gender disorders. One is Transvestic Fetishism (302.3 in the DSM-IV). The other is Gender Identity Disorder (302.6). What you have been...

    Body Fat Testing

I looked at the Tanita scales and read the reviews...the ones that seem best are the ones they call their "top of the line"....of those, the most affordable is $159.99... I found a store in my area that has it, so I can look at it in person and not have to pay shipping if I decide to buy it...

    Body Fat Testing

I'm hoping that you all have some good suggestions... I called around to the 3 health clubs in my area and asked about having my body fat tested. Two told me they would not do it for a non-member, one told me they would only do it after I took the tour of the gym (and got the sales pitch)...

    Pet Peeve

Exactly Phem....in fact, that's why the title of my post was "Pet Peeve"....I also said I realize I'm being picky. It's just one of those things that gets to me, mainly because.... MUSCLE DOES NOT WEIGH MORE THAN FAT! :D

    Pet Peeve

tripleV, I honestly don't want to argue. With anyone. I just think that it is important for people to realize that muscle does not weigh more than fat, it just takes up less space. That's all. I don't think I've been in any way agumentative or mean. Jeez, I even said I RESPECTFULLY disagreed...

    Thanks phem!! :D

    Pet Peeve

Please correct me if I'm wrong, w6, but I believe that g/cm3 is not a measure of weight; it is a measure of VOLUME. As I pointed out above, volume and weight are entirely different forms of measurement.

    Pet Peeve

"So if you lose 1 lb of fat and gain 1 lb of muscle, you are heavier." tripleV, I have to respectfully disagree. If you lose one pound of muscle and gain one pound of fat, you remain exactly the same, weight-wise. Here's an example of how that's true: Let's say you hand me 1 pound of fat. I...
