Ladies: Why is Height Such a Big Deal?

This is something I've been wondering lately. Virtually every woman says they want a tall guy as one of their primary qualities in a man. While I understand the biological reason for this (pretend it's 15,000 BC and you eed to be with the biggest guy to survive), I don't get why so many women seem to be so fixated on this.

You've probably guessed that I'm short. Yes, I am. I am 5'8". I used to claim 5'9" because I didn't know any better, but I'm 5'8" and 1/4. Now, I understand completely if a woman who is 5'9" turns me down. It would look kinda ridiculous in public, and I guess that's why they turn me down, but I had a girl who was 5'1" turn me down once because I wasn't tall enough. I actually laughed when she said that, and walked away.

The weird thing is, I don't feel short. I recognize the fact that I am short, but I've never felt that way. Whenever I say that, there's always a guy around that says, "Well, you are," as if to try to make me feel bad or something.

Does the lack of height on a man make him ugly to women? I simply can't date an overweight woman. I'm simply not attracted to it. That's my only superficial need. On the other hand, does being short make a guy ugly, even if he is actually considered handsome or hot by society? Snooki from Jersey Shore is laughably short (I'd guess 4'10"). She's also fat and ugly, so I'm not attracted to her, but if she were a really pretty girl, I'd have no problems dating her. Her lack of attractiveness has nothing to do with her height, she's just ugly.

A lot of women I know say their minimum height requirement is 5'10". My best friend is 5'10", and in pictures you can hardly tell a height difference between us, but somehow he's magically propelled to man status while I remain in the little boy faggot status. Is the underlying feeling that if, on the off-chance we were to get married, that our children would be genetically inferior puss kids? My dad is 5'6", so I got lucky.

My first love was on the short side. Dont get me wrong, a tall guy is nice, it can make a guy with an average face/body seem more attractive at first. As long as he was taller than me, which is easy. I'm 5'6

Im with cindy on this...hes gotta be my height or taller...a little taller is nice for me wearing heels

Im 5' 8" soooo...make of that what you will

my first husband was 5' 6", his height never bothered me

It's an evolutionary thing. Women are drawn to men they think will give them the best offspring.

The funny thing is, being the biggest and strongest shouldn't mean much in today's society (unless you're a professional athlete or manual labor), but undoing mother nature takes a reaaaaally long time.

This is like asking a guy why waist hip ratio is important. We are genetically programed to like certain things in a mate and see certain genetic traits as signs of a desirable partner for whatever reason. For men, they are attracted to traits that signal youth to their brains (example: long hair), vitality, fertility. Women are drawn to traits that tell our subconscious that a man is strong, fertile, capable of protection, etc.
