Gun people: How would one go about learning to operate/shoot a gun? Are there courses offered by cities/states that are taught by police/pros?

Like, I wouldn't even know how to tell if a safety is on or not if I walked past a gun on the sidewalk.

Most states require that you go through a certification class in order to CCW. Typically they'll go over the legalities of carrying a concealed weapon and some offer time on the firing range as well.

Also, most handguns don't even have a "safety" anymore. A lot of them are DAO.

I have no iterest in CCW. I mean I want, like, literally, an "intro to how guns work" class. I'd pay for a class, but I'm not shelling out $1k for a gun just to learn how to use something I don't want.

in some states, the basic gun safety course is required for an FID card as well as Class A/B. however, you dont have to apply for them, just take the course and be done with it if thats your prerogative. last time i looked it cost $100 and lasted 4 hours.
