My best friend in high school got through BUDS and he was a flaky slug that dropped out of wrestling.
What does he do now?
Is he still in the Navy or doing contract work in the sandbox?
I think the concept of a USN Seal as being the baddest MoFo walking the planet is a bit inflated. Some of those dudes weigh in at a buck-fifty.
They are experts at creating havoc, but what separates them is their mental toughness.
Command, control and communication.
Keep it simple stupid
Pre planning prevents piss poor performance
These are the principles that distinguish the elite IMO.

not consistent with the daily mindset of an airman
just sayin'
I do agree with a lot of what you just said. Spec Ops military personal are not pansies son. And being dropped 50 miles behind enemy lines in Afgan or Iraq ain't exactly be kept out of harms way. But most of the civilian fucks in this country know more about what goes on in war times anyways. LOLOLOLOLOL I never cease to be amazed at such shit as this.Navy seals are great, but this isn't 1945 anymore. Wars are won by nerds creating gps-guided missiles from high in the sky. War is a lot different now than the days of stormimg the beach in normandy. In 20 years, we'll have cyborg's and body armor suits.
Not to mention, all the training in the world ain't gonna prevent you from getting your ass blown while driving around in a hummer. Becoming special forces only means you're not expendable so the military won't put you on shitty "high death ratio" type assignments like patrol and checkpoints. That's what 18 y/o privates are for

The Soviets experienced the greatest success in Afghanistan when they moved from conventional ops to inserting Spetsnaz behind the lines via helicopters to assassinate leaders and ambush the Mujaheddin. The US changed the equation by giving stinger missiles to the Mujaheddin....The US "won" the counter insurgency in the central highlands of Vietnam using Green berets and equipping the natives with weapons and providing leadership/training.
inspired by Cutter's maneuvers![]()

and yet nobody was calling them pansies. I think the point was that their reputation is overblown by the american media hype machine that paints them as unstoppable cyborgs. Remember that competition on TV years back? I forget what it was called, but the SEALS were proven as awesome individual athletes.....but not so great on teamwork, they got shot up. If I remember correctly it was the SWAT cops that "owned" that comp.

their pt program i doubt anyone here could compete with them at.
having just gone thru a month of military lite training with military lite pt regiemes, no way i'm cut out for special ops from just the pt alone.
some quick miles and too much weight on your back props to them
lite or not, if you are a grunt esp in afgahnistan you are hiking mtns with weight.I went through a dive certification program with an instructor that was a former SEAL and I passed the SEAL standards for going to BUDS at the age of twelve. It isn't physical...it's mental. I prided myself on high PT scores but the most important thing I learned in BCT was when the drill sergeant explained the fact you haven't run too far or too fast until you passed out. BTW, military training in the army is lite by definition these days...I have friends that left in frustration even though they loved the Army.

hiking is what i do a lot of for my job, and maybe i'm a pussy, but it's hard as fuk.
esp with weight...so i respect the hell outta the scouts/recon/forward observers for humping sick weight
and surely grunts are carrying more than the 50 lbs i carry.
