Cameron has basically admitted that the characters are giant cliches. The most entertaining character, the badass Colonol, was just one giant cliche. The story, originally entitled "Project 880," had much more character development. Problem is, the movie would have been 5 hours long. Cameron got rid of all that to spen more time and energy on the planet as opposed to the characters. The story was done MUCH better in Dances With Wolves, and marginally better in The Last Samurai.

The Last Samurai was fuggin SICK - I can't believe I forgot to add that to my favorite movies list

I just wanted to grow my hair and join Navi people

The problem other than the characters were dull with no personality -- is that the story was so cliche and predictable. You know he was gonna join them, you know he would turn on the humans, you know there would be a fight, you knoew the humans would lose. Everythign was predictable right from the start.

I think that's what bored people for 2 1/2 hours and mahy hurt chances for a 'sequel'. But $1BN is all that matters.

And another thing - sorry folks - no one I talked to really cared or evn talked about the '3D' aspect. Like 10 mins in it lost it's coolness. I think Hollywood grossly is overestimating the value of 3D.

But but....I thought it was a flop???? According to you, anyway lololol

if it continued on like the 2nd week and burned out fast - it would've. Combined with the fact i, and many others, weren't that impressed with the film.

Fortunately the rest of the world chimed in and now it's finally making a "profit". Many execs can now stop sweating.

So basically things played out exactly like I said they would.

My titles should be changed to Moderator / Box Office Prognosticator

I liked it.

Didn't love it, but liked it.

I am surprised that no one here has picked on Cameron's neo-liberal, tree-hugging, anti-capitalist hippie lecturing yet.

This commentator was a lot quicker onto that:

Miranda Devine

I might be a pink ass liberal myself, but even I found Cameron's holier than though attitude nauseating. So far into the future you would think that humans would have progressed from being greedy capitalist who will ass rape any planet and kill the natives.

b0und (liked Avatar, not a fan of Cameron)

That mirrors the review I've seen.

- Lots of special effects
- Evil capitalists exploiting natural resources
- Mean old military beating people up

I'll pass.
