OK tv pros I almost never watch TV and too lazy to research.
This one room I have to replace a 32" RCA tv only 3 years old.(not plasma or lcd)

The sofa is about 12 feet from the wall and the TV stand is about 41 inches wide.

am i looking for 1080 or something like that? and what the biggest I should get without it looking retarded.??

this is a K thread thanks

Impossible for you looking retarded with to big of a tv.Get a 52" min

To replace a 32" 4:3 CRT TV, you need a MINIMUM of a 40" 16:9 flat panel. That is, the 40" 16:9 TV will have the SAME image size as the 32" 4:3 TV.

So if you want a significant upgrade, 40" is the number you're trying to beat when shopping.

I recently upgraded my bedroom TV from a 32" CRT to a 46" LCD. To me that was the minimum to see a noticeable improvement. 46" was also at my price limit for a bedroom TV, and I'm not sure I could have fit anything much larger in the back of my car. Anything over a 50" and I would have required a delivery service.

The 46" is fine for the bedroom, but I gotta say that, even in an apartment, if this TV had been in another room I'd have been a bit disappointed. So Shrimpdick may be right, 52" is the way to go if it's going in your front room and you plan on entertaining. A Superbowl party with a small TV is a bummer.

how long will a Walmart TV last me? LOL
funny how my Mom could keep a TV for 20 years now we toss them after 3 or 5.
I still have a great 20" in my garage that I bought around 1988. nothing wrong with it so I cant bring myself to toss it out.

The sweet spot price wise is around 46" inches so that's the size I would go for. The LCD panels are made by very few companies so it really doesn't matter much about who makes the TV, I'm sure someone will want to argue that but .....

State of the art right now is LED, LCD flat panel TV's, they use a lot less power and have better colors. Of course not cheap. LED TV - Televisions | SAMSUNG

depends on how much you want to spend

quality and value = samsung

top rated= panasonic/ upper lines of sonys/ pioneer
I'd stick with LCD with LED being so new and pricey.

I saw something somewhere the other day that said best buy is gonna be marking a buncha tv's down. TV's >39" apparently dont sell that well, so they're trying to reduce inventory.

Never heard of someone getting made fun of over too big of a tv but i damn sure have called out quite a few small ones.

stay away from rca or panasonic
lot of consumer complaints

samsung is vated very highly all the way around
costco has an awesome return policy...but the models are all like 6mths old it seems
the new led lcd's arepretty awesome

we have a plasma that we'll be replacing next year...I don't recomend for the simple reason that it generates a crap load of heat and my elect bill went up when we got it
I don't know if anyone even sells plasma anymore...do they?

I've made fun of, and seen others make fun of, the big clunky old free-standing rear-projection big screen TVs. Seeing one of those things on display as the point of pride in one's living room was the very height of redneckism.

A couple of weeks ago they had some quietly marked down on the sales floor, discounts that were not reflected on their web site. My 46" Samsung was $250 less than the advertised price, at the store.

A friend of mine got one of these about 9 years ago, paid $10,000 for it I dont know how big it was but fuck it was obsolete like 4 years later (maybe less LOL) but not just obsolete it was a fucking eye sore....no way da wife was gonna let him keep it not even at his $800,000.00 cottage.

No mention of processor speeds, fucking n00bs. Don't even consider anything less than 120. Most newer models are 120 or 240, those 60's are getting dated and I can definitely see the difference one some depending on what's playing.

What exactly does retarded look like? As the mom of a special needs child I find your comment extremely offensive.

I love my 52" panasonic. I got it to replace my 42" Hitachi that I got years ago, and you can really tell a difference. Not to mention that I got the 52" way cheaper than I paid for my 42" 4-5 years ago.

Retarded and special needs are not the same. Please feel free to look this shit up in your dictionary.

In the case of the wrong size TV. This would mean I'm going backwards in my fashion sense.

Special Needs people aint been called retarded since the 80's :faint:
